5.0 out of 5 stars therapist recommends this book to clients
In my rural mental health counseling practice, I have recommended this book to about 50 clients who experience anxiety. Each client said that the book described them, helped them feel understood, had specific ideas of what to do about the problem - and that it is fun and an easy read. I highly recommend this book as a "bibliography" resource for therapists.

3.0 out of 5 stars If you have anxiety...
If you have anxiety, 360 pages of info is overwhelming. Usually anxiety is not that complicated. Start with something simple that gets right to the point of reducing your anxiety (I did the program at selftherapy.org and loved it). Then if you want to become an expert, read a book like this.. highly informational, but not all that practical.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for High Paced Life, November 6, 2002
By
This book was perfect for me (a New Yorker), because I am the typical city man: fast paced life, lots of stress, and lots of anxiety. My high stress lifestyle, is derived from my high stress job. I almost didnt have time to read this book in fact, unitl my therapist insisted that I do so. I am almost done with the book and I wanted to thank the authors for providing me with great insight on my problem and more importantly for the solutions I have started to take to help myself. They made it quite clear the vitality of living a less-stress life. Now if only they could write Dummies guide to New York Streets and Traffic. Thanks Again from the Big Apple. Thomas

Hi All

Firstly, this is a really helpful book... easy to read and putting all your fears in easy to understand words. There is LIVE after and during anxiety and panic disorders. Secondly, as per other reviews, Magnesium, calcium and vit B supplements do help to lessen anxiety. Try it, but first speak to your doctor.

GREAT READ ! Thanks Laura and Charles.

This is NOT a self-help Book. If you want a Self-Help Book, do your research and buy one. This book is a REFERENCE book about anxiety disorder. and is a GOOD ONE~!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great place to start after you obtain the courage to start working the problem(s), March 21, 2011
This review is from: Overcoming Anxiety For Dummies (Paperback)
I came down with Depression and Anxiety or at least it got to the point I sought treatment in June last year. I was covered with books and felt overwhelmed as to where to start. Learned Optimism, Do not sweat the small stuff and it is all small stuff, The anxiety and phobia workbook along with many other helpful articles. Later in the process it came up that there was an Anxiety for Dummies and it was offered as a complimentary copy. I read it in a week and wished it had been the first offering. It was easy to read, hit the same points as the other more scholarly readings yet at a topical level. I would recommend (from my seat) to start with this and then progress to the more in depth texts. I found it very very helpful.

This review is from: Overcoming Anxiety For Dummies (Paperback)
Updated and upgraded, Overcoming Anxiety for Dummies, 2nd edition, remains true to the excellent work of Drs. Elliott and Smith. Along with refreshing the material from their 2007 edition, they have included a new section, "Zeroing in on Specific Worries" that makes this book especially topical. In their easy-to-follow style, they take readers by the hand and teach them how to take in stride the challenges of the 21st Century. Whether you are concerned about career or financial stressors, natural disasters or pandemics, Drs. Elliott & Smith make effective coping an achievable reality for every reader

I purchased this for my daughter who is suffering from anxiety. She had some full blown panic attacks that kept her from working, socializing and almost all aspects of everyday living. The book will give you some ideas that you can use right away and that is what we were looking for. It has been updated recently and is quite easy to follow and understand. The title can be a little off-putting but if you can chuckle about that you are off to a good start.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, December 20, 2007
I love the dummies series. Despite thier name they are typically a well written, well researched and balanced resource. The authors of this one included a comprehensive look at anxiety with a wide variety of interventions to suit many people. Helpful without being dry or preachy, it's great for clinician and self-helper alike. A must-have for your bookshelf if you work with people with anxiety or have anxiety yourself.
