Stephen C. Richards, Ph.D. University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh,
This review is from: Overcoming Prison and Addiction (Contemporary Issues in Crime and Justice Series) (Paperback)
Dr. Terry has written the most important study of prison and addiction. The book takes the reader into a world where addiction leads to prison. He relates interviews and correspondence with men who struggle to overcome their addiction to hard drugs while surviving prison. This is a powerful, well written, look at a seriosu social problem. The book is appropriate for university courses in criminology, criminal justice, and addiction studies. I have adopted this book for a course in Corrections. My students find the book to be a good read and especially helpful for preparation to work as drug treatment counselors. This book is destined to become a classic in addiction studies.

Sure, the author does not write in a structured, grammar-naziish Oxford Press Publication way, but the information within is real stuff you will NOT get in an ordinary text book. The author has first-hand experience and also writes about real people with real problems. Odds are if you didn't like this book it's because you're not open-minded to different viewpoints that challenge your own.

I used this book for a college class and it was very helpful. When it came in the mail it was in perfect shape. I was also able to re-sell it later.

This book was not only expensive, but in my opinion poorly written. Although the writer overcame many obstacles in his life, he has a tendency to blame others for his own mistakes. This "book" was so short that I would call it a pamphlet.

This may quite possibly be the worst book in the history of the written work. DO NOT BUY THIS WASTE OF PAPER. TOTAL GARBAGE.
