Great Little Resource,

This review is from: Overcoming Your Shadow Mission (Leadership Library) (Hardcover)
I stumbled upon this book through a recommendation of a mentor of mine, and found it to be extremely helpful. Our "shadow mission" is a mirror of the actual mission given to us by God, but instead of glorifying Him, it exists to glorify me. All of us have them and struggle to not actively live them out. While Ortberg doesn't go into great detail on how to handle them (you can't expect everything from a book you can read in a few hours), he's strong on identifying them. Valuable resource for leaders and the teams that lead around them.

I had never read anything by Ortberg before, when a friend encouraged me to read this book. I respected her expertise with team building and values in the work place, so I expected an exceptional experience.
Overcoming your Shadow Mission delivered just that. Utilizing a deceptively simple writing style, with biblical examples, and contemporary slices of life, Ortberg quickly led me to understand his main points. If you are looking for a way to discover your own and your organization's "Shadow" Mission, and wish to find a way to return to and honor your true mission, this is the book. If you are looking for a highly readable book to purchase for each member of your work team, church or non-profit agency, again, this is your book. Overcoming Your Shadow Mission is now among the small collection of life-guiding books that I refer back to regularly. Even though this is a quick read, it's a deep read. Thank you Ortberg for delivering a classic on personal/organizational mission.

Good book. I liked the interesting approach to life's distractions. He could have used and editor in spots - but overall I recommend the book.
