In a world where we are told to be perfect and flawless and all-together, this book was a breath of fresh air. The author's willingness to be honest about her struggles and her journey inspired me. She refreshed a time-tested concept and challenged me to face my issues, see them for what they are, work through them, and walk away healed (or at least on the path to it). This is the best book I've read in a long time. I'm inspired!

Teri Johnson's new book is "Overcoming The Nevers"
Overcoming The Nevers: by Gardening Your Life and Nurturing Seeds of Truth

She gave me a lot of insights about myself that I didn't expect to hear from this very pretty book (love the cover). She has some keen insights into God's Word that have confirmed some things that I've been thinking and praying about lately. Her perspective has kind of given me a new lens or filter to look at my life through, and I am so grateful to have her book.

I am positive that I needed to read it FOR ME, but when I first started reading it, I thought that it wasn't relevant for me and that I was just reading it to tell "other people" about it. LOL. It's funny how easily we can slip into arrogant, overconfident thinking that we don't need to work on ourselves anymore because we have been healed of whatever our own issues are. However, that is exactly how more weeds get into our lives, when we're not paying as close attention because we get too comfortable with our freshly weeded gardens.

I am grateful to know Teri, and also to have this opportunity to read her book. I have incorporated it into my devotional time because this is MEAT. I've spent a lot of time meditating on and really pondering this books' contents.

Sincerely,
Donna Johnson

In a world of self help books and people telling you to just be like them and you'll be blessed, this book INSPIRES and gives you APPLICABLE steps to deal with your own junk. Johnson gives you the steps she took to climb out of her pit, which seems to supernaturally translate to give you the steps to get out of your own. There is no power in a novice writing, basically someone telling you how to do or overcome something they themselves have not done, this book is different. The author has DONE what she is sharing with you, which means we can have what she's got. I'm sick of cliche, same old blah-blah books preaching at me, this book's humility alone lifts you up to hope for change, and then accomplish it. You cannot read this book and be the same.

Written with intimacy and truth, the author creates a sacred space between herself and her readers with a candid humility and the uncommon ability to connect. Teri Johnson shares with raw honesty, how she overcame one of the most difficult seasons of her life. I did not want to put this book down, because I felt for the first time in a long time - that I was connecting with someone who 'got it'. That kind of connection is not a common one in today's world of 'band aid' quick-fix books. This book does not even fall into that category. It leaves the reader with a sense of hope and inspiration that is set apart from any other book I have on my shelf. You will find a friend in this author, not only that, but practical tools to help shape and process your own road to healing. If you want a book that will leave you feeling inspired, this is just the shot in the arm that you need.

I've tried in the past to put the principles of the 12 steps to work in my life before but I've always gotten stuck. Sometimes the faith thing gets me, sometimes the inventory seems overwhelming. Overcoming the Nevers puts the tools of the twelve steps into the hands of the every day person. I don't have to be an addict to really use these great tools and get more out of my life. Putting some of the tools to work right away have changed me today(gratefulness, and prayer) and I look forward to the changes that I hope to see in the future (willingness, and a clean slate).

I loved the cover and as I turned to the first page I was confronted with my own set of Nevers. As I went through the book which is based on the 12-step program but presented in ways that will connect regardless of what things we thought we would never do. As I thought through some of my own nevers, I could see how they were impacting me more than I thought. Teri's book caused me to think through some issues and gave me concrete ways of dealing with them!

A great book written in a way where the author becomes a friend and an encourager!
