5.0 out of 5 stars best book on getting kids to do homework!
Finally, a book that is written in a language that the kids and I can understand! The Daily Assignment Sheet works great, and I finally have a way of keeping up with my three son's homework. A must read for any parent!

If only it were this simple...every child would be a A student! First of all, if your child does not want to do the homework, they are going to conveniently "forget" about assignments. As far as communicating with the teachers about assignments, that will last a few days, then the annoyed teacher gives a lecture about "teaching your child to be responsible" (in other words, I don't have time to make sure your kid writes down the assignment every day for the whole year). The punishment/reward system does not work for a child who looks at homework as the punishment. This book contains the simplistic advice you would find in any woman's magazine. It will not work, especially with older children.

School started here in Floida last week and after reading Dr. Peter's book my 7th grader began the first day of school using the program. It's terrific! This is the first time that she knows what she has to do everyday and actually gets it done. I wish I had known about this system when my son was in high school.

I am so pleased to have read this book. My 9yr son was starting to decline in his school grades and effort. After reading this book and speaking with his teachers and John (my son)we have an accountability program up and running. My son realizes the benefits and has been cooperating and noticeably improving in his work habits. I am 100% for this system. I like the no-nonsense yet understanding way that Ruth Peters writes. This lady knows what she is talking about. I trust her wisdom and am willing to follow her guidelines to get the results. The study and school habits he learns now will last him a life time. It may seem a little tough, but it is the best way to help our children comprehend the seriousness of self discipline or lack there of.

2.0 out of 5 stars Common sense. . ., May 1, 2001

Here's the plan: 1. know what your children's homework is (communicate with their teachers) 2. stay on top of whether they're doing it 3. use a system of "consequences" (reward/punishment) to reinforce their study behaviors. OK---I just saved you $12.95! This book is only simple common sense; there is NOTHING innovative or helpful inside.

5.0 out of 5 stars Proven to work!!, June 18, 2004

I have "Don't Be Afraid to Discipline". I am a teacher and I recommend it to all of my parents. They buy it, read it, and thank me for recommending something that helps to shed some light on what they do or not do and how to do things better.Kids need limits and parents need someone to remind them of all that good parenting of years ago. One last thought, I have attended some of her seminars personally. Made me a better teacher!!

This book was a life saver - it's helped me beyond words! Thanks, thanks, thanks to Dr. Peters for making this available to this very concerned family. I love the daily assignment sheet idea.

Saw your interview on the TODAY SHOW and it really made sense. I read the book in one sitting and fully agree with the idea that kids need their parents' help and involvement each day to keep them on track in school. I look forward to my sons having great grades this year in school!
