Biography

TOXIC HOLOCAUST mutated into existence in 1999, when Joel Grind merged his love for classic punk and metal and the flash of L.A. hard rock into his ideal band. Like his influences - Bathory, Venom, English Dogs, Possessed, Broken Bones - TOXIC HOLOCAUST featured blazing riffs, gravel-throated vocals, and a deadly fixation on the evil in man and a post-apocalyptic world. Grind wrapped all of these… Read more in Amazon's Toxic Holocaust Store

Product Description

TOXIC HOLOCAUST and its main man Joel Grind make good on the threat to unleash the finest metal this side of the 21st century on their Relapse debut An Overdose of Death... Their most accomplished record to date, An Overdose of Death... is an unstoppable juggernaut of infectious riffs, punk attitude and unforgettable anthems that could be the soundtrack to civil unrest in a post-apocalyptic world gone mad. Gravelord, Wild Dogs, Future Shock, War Game, Nuke the Cross, War is Hell, and the list of incredible songs goes on. If you call yourself a fan of metal, punk, or just kick ass rock n roll, TOXIC HOLOCAUST and An Overdose of Death... is nothing less than your godsend. If this is the sound of a post-nuclear world, then bombs away!

4.0 out of 5 stars Consume and Conquer, October 3, 2008
This review is from: An Overdose of Death (Audio CD)
I checked this album out when I saw they were on the GWAR bill (who doesn't love a Gwar a show.) Wasn't sure what I was in for until I saw the cover art, with the 80's style radioactive wasteland beast-demons. More retro thrash I thought, and yep that's exactly what it is. But who cares, this stuff is honest and not derivative enough to be simple rehashing. This is really a fun, drink-informed, aggressive thrash moshing built to rouse crowds and ignite house parties.

All tracks are raging, headbanging tunes of not-so-buzzsaw but grimy, thrashy punk. No gang vocals, just snarling, beer-spewing aggression. The riffs are all great enough to keep you coming for more, and truly catchy in the best thrash sense (melody doesn't have to be flexing your inner Hetfield/CoC whine.)

Not essential by any means, but one of the better modern thrash albums I've listened to. Drink up, loosen your necktie, and give your neck a workout. Feedback, Blood, and Distortion!

5.0 out of 5 stars Modern Day Masterpiece!, March 9, 2010
I dont even know where to start. This band or should I say, Joel Grind just keeps getting better by the album. Their older stuff was amazing to say the least and this album is just a scorcher from start to finish. Its got your catchy chorus's that make you wanna listen to it again, its got those riffs that make you just want the next album and its got vocals that make you wanna mosh all over the place. This is a great modern death/thrash album, but fits in with something that was released in the 90s. You love old school? You'll love An Overdose of Death!

Favorite Tracks are "Wild Dogs" and "Nuke The Cross".
9/10.
