1.0 out of 5 stars Toxic Holocaust is to thrash as Fall Out Boy is to NSBM
So, in other words, it isn't even close.

I'm getting relatively sick & tired of these bands who are appearing out of nowhere to cash in on the "metal revival", started by bands that have a more proper place on Oprah than at any kind of metal festival where, you know, actual thrash, death & black metal bands appear.

Toxic Holocaust is just another...

4.0 out of 5 stars Consume and Conquer, October 3, 2008
This review is from: An Overdose of Death (Audio CD)
I checked this album out when I saw they were on the GWAR bill (who doesn't love a Gwar a show.) Wasn't sure what I was in for until I saw the cover art, with the 80's style radioactive wasteland beast-demons. More retro thrash I thought, and yep that's exactly what it is. But who cares, this stuff is honest and not derivative enough to be simple rehashing. This is really a fun, drink-informed, aggressive thrash moshing built to rouse crowds and ignite house parties.

All tracks are raging, headbanging tunes of not-so-buzzsaw but grimy, thrashy punk. No gang vocals, just snarling, beer-spewing aggression. The riffs are all great enough to keep you coming for more, and truly catchy in the best thrash sense (melody doesn't have to be flexing your inner Hetfield/CoC whine.)

Not essential by any means, but one of the better modern thrash albums I've listened to. Drink up, loosen your necktie, and give your neck a workout. Feedback, Blood, and Distortion!

5.0 out of 5 stars Modern Day Masterpiece!, March 9, 2010
I dont even know where to start. This band or should I say, Joel Grind just keeps getting better by the album. Their older stuff was amazing to say the least and this album is just a scorcher from start to finish. Its got your catchy chorus's that make you wanna listen to it again, its got those riffs that make you just want the next album and its got vocals that make you wanna mosh all over the place. This is a great modern death/thrash album, but fits in with something that was released in the 90s. You love old school? You'll love An Overdose of Death!

Favorite Tracks are "Wild Dogs" and "Nuke The Cross".
9/10.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great stuff...A classic?, July 13, 2010
This review is from: An Overdose of Death (Audio CD)
I just picked my copy up, a few years late but WOW if only this came out 20 years ago we might have been able to crush the "grunge" movement. Yes you can here the Venom, Bathory and thrashy-hard core styles which is what makes this a classic in my collection. I grew up with seeing Megadeth, Possessed, Overkill, the Exploited, Mercyful Fate (King Diamond) and the Bad Brains at local clubs and cant wait to catch these guy's live. Brings back the memories.

It is impossible for me to wrap what is left of my mind around the fact that this just one man making all of this fantastic Thrash. I love to walk to this one it burns off extras calories. If you love Thrash Metal download this one and it will seldom leave your MP3 player.

One of the best food prep albums of all time, next to AC/DC's High Voltage and Powerage Albums. Highly recommended for onion chopping or otherwise!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nuclear Assault fans rejoice!, November 6, 2008

I saw Toxic Holocaust in the summer of 2007 with Municipal Waste and Skeletonwitch. I wasn't that impressed but when I heard that Joel Grind was using Donnie Paycheck from Zeke on this album I decided to check it out. This album rules! It has a great mix of US and UK thrash influences - English Dogs, C.O.C. (Animosity era), Broken Bones, GBH, Bathory, Discharge, Venom, Poison Idea, Adrenalin OD, etc.

Get this and rage!

If you like stuff like Motorhead, MC5 and Gang Green check out Mighty High...In Drug City.

4.0 out of 5 stars not too metal, November 22, 2008
This review is from: An Overdose of Death (Audio CD)
This is actually a fun Thrash album, if you enjoy Thrash. I'm not a big fan and I'd probably get sick of this if I listened to it frequently but for the Thrash fan, you'll probably like this. It sounds like Thrash that was coming out from 1986 (not too metal). Fast paced, amusing lyrics.
