Amazing new talent,
By Lindsay (Branford, CT United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Overdrive (Audio CD)
Katy Rose is an amazing new talent to hit the music scene. Her lyrics are fresh, sarcastic, and intersting. Her vocals are complicated- one song she sounds light and airy, like a child, the next song, she's screaming in anger. She's bringing someone different to pop right now- she's not trying to be anything she's not. She doesn't claim to be "hardcore" or "punk" or a "badgirl". She's just herself, and that's so refreshing. "Overdrive" is a great example of her more sarastic lyrics and "Lemon" is a poetic, dark ballad that shows a slightly more mature side to her. And the special interview shows how smart and genuine this young girl is. Best of all, you get a free stream of the full album "Because I Can", in stores Jan. 27th. The album is unbelievable! The clips don't do it justice. Check out her website at www.katyrose.net to read her journal entries and read her bio.

Overdrive,
By Ryan (Oregon, OH) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Overdrive (Audio CD)
For two months now, I have impatiently been waiting to hear and see the song/video for Katy Rose's first single "Overdrive." Watching television on Thursday, I caught her on MTV and I have to say, it was well worth waiting for. The music video is so fresh and different from anything else out there now, although the song is similar to those of Avril Lavigne and Michelle Branch. Other than that, I would never compare Katy Rose to Avril. Katy is the real deal here, people. "Overdrive" has a few lyrics that are nonsense ("I need to take a shower when I look at you/You sting and hurt like a bad tattoo...") but it has it's strong points in lyrics like "They all come here to find a scene/But end up girls on methradine/Naked on a TV screen." The chorus is catchy, it sure got stuck in my head, and it has been since I heard it. I understand how people can compare her to Avril Lavigne, but Katy Rose is her own artist and she's more mature attitude-wise, lyrically, and musically than Avril has been. This girl is gonna blow up...pick up her album January 27th.

My Love for Katy is On Overdrive,
This review is from: Overdrive (Audio CD)
Katy Rose's Overdrive is one of the best pop anthems of the year. It combines sassy California beach pop with punk rock, and to make it even better, has good vocals. Lemon is also a good track, and is nearly as listenable as Overdrive. So I say, opt for Katy instead of wannabe's like Avril and Hilary.

I heard the chorus of 'Overdrive' in the film "Thirteen" and the trailer for Lindsay Lohan's new one "Mean Girls". It immediately got stuck in my head. I downloaded most of Katy Rose's album 'Because I Can' and it left me flat and bored. But I do love the catchiness of the leading single and the B-Side 'Lemon' is OK. Buy the single for less than $3 if you like the song 'Overdrive' but I wouldnt recommend Rose's full album.

If this is what kids listen to and enjoy I weep for the future. The lyrics leave you wanting and so does her voice.

Katy Rose,
A Kid's Review

This is her best (and first) tune! The track is fast and funky! If you love Katy's Songs check out:
Ashlee Simpson: Sounds funky and fast, much like Katy! Destiny's Child: OK, this would suit R 'N' B gals that love rock and urban tracks! Girls Aloud: I would recommend their new album What Will The Neighbours Say? if you like Katy Rose. A lot of their tracks are at the same pace as Katy's. Britney: If you like Katy's rock-style songs I wouldn't say to buy this. If you do love Pop though, buy Britney's Greatest Hits album. Or order an old Britney single off Amazon to check out her tunes if you want to try her out in your music collection. I hope this helped, Katy fans! Bye!

Finally a pop artist that actually DOES write their own music, and it isn't repetative blabber!! Even though this single only gives you a small taste of this talented new artist, you see from the get go that this young girl has more to offer in the music industry then some poppy image. You see her girly playful side in Overdrive and her confused and feeling of abandonment and betray in her luscious song, Lemon. Katy Rose is going to jump on the scene when her new CD comes out in January! Make sure you take note of this talented new artist!

i have read some of the reviews posted for katy rose and i feel like laughing at almost every one.katy rose is NOT some fresh, new, amazing talent. however, she is NOT some shameless avril clone. i strongly believe katy is being herself. unfortunately, she is not an original. on her website she is compared to older liz phair and pj harvey material. what the **** are people thinking?! to compare rose to the brilliance of either of those two truly talented artists is an insult. in "overdrive" rose sings:"yea yea-a, i'm borderline"... and she is. she walks the thin line between the same old derivative music we've all heard before and a young artist that is struggling to find her sound. her lyrics are only sometimes good, but always sound like she's trying too hard. the music is pretty good, but always sounds like something you've heard before. her voice is effective, but she is not technically proficient by any means. the bottom line? if rose continues to develop and grow, she could be a good artist in a few years. but for now she gets lost in the search to find out who she is as a musician. i like the song...but the album is not worth picking up.
