5.0 out of 5 stars Kevin Davidson & The Voices (KDV) is a choir outfit from out of Memphis.
Kevin Davidson & The Voices (KDV) is a choir outfit from out of Memphis. With a couple of other albums under their belt this millennium and hearing this one, clearly they know the current game.

The lively `Tabernacle', `Work It Out', audacious `Over' and the beautifully concise `God Wants To Heal You' carry the album. There's a welcome raw edge to `I Will...

There's a welcome raw edge to `I Will Call Upon The Lord' - live music must never be too polished. All lead vocals were up for it though Michelle Prather was a tonal joy for me; hints of Karen Clark-Sheard and right in the dynamic pocket where I like sopranos.

Should I be picky? Nothing really i.e. the mix weighs slightly against the lead vocals favour but that's preferential though.

The choir live recording product is pretty well defined now; so you can expect many facets including precision choir fronted by various dynamic leads, rasping synth-brass, cutting strings, airtight drum-fills, a credential-revealing intro, a medley of back-to-back songs and some ministry may feature. There are grooves you heard somewhere before and traditional gospel workouts. Worship sits alongside uplifting themes like `new season' and `breakthrough'. The quality lies in the execution of each track and their cohesion coming across as a single event; the listener equally feels present at the event or brings that event into his environment. Overflow shows KDV are in the big league and are more than competent in every facet of the genre
