5.0 out of 5 stars What a debut!
This is the first album of After Crying. (Well, the first, which is available... There were some previous demo releases). The songs on this album is in English. This is one of the best albums of the band. A++ The band is 13 years old, but European Things - Hommage a Frank Zappa is still performed on every concert. 3 1/2

Curiously compelling classically-inflected progressive rock will turn off fans of raw, lesser arranged methods, but if you get past hearing the intellectual need to impress (and awkward vocals) you will be treated to adventuresome arrangements with sound payoff.

This is the first album of After Crying. (Well, the first, which is available... There were some previous demo releases). The songs on this album is in English. This is one of the best albums of the band. A++ The band is 13 years old, but European Things - Hommage a Frank Zappa is still performed on every concert. Zoltan Lengyel, a member of the band said: "Everyone loves Zappa" The most outstanding songs (public opinion) are European thing and Shining. The singer of Shining is Peter Pejtsik's wife, who has a beautiful voice. My personal favourite is To black. Confess your beauty is an excellent song too with a beautiful cello and piano solo in it. This is a superb album, I can recommend it to everyone, who likes chamber music and the classic style of A.C. If you like this album, you may also consider to buy Elso Evtized (First decade) and Megalazottak es Megszomoritottak (The Insulted and Injured)

4.0 out of 5 stars Original Modern Progressive, July 12, 2010

Hungary's After Crying is one of the very best and most essential of the "Modern Progressive" bands - and one of the very few which meet/exceed the high standards of the Prog greats of 35 years ago. Building on the foundation of their own distinctive modern rock style, AC blend influences like Zappa & Crimson, ELP-ish keyboards, sophisticated classical string/horn arrangements, and bits of Eastern European folk accents. This, their 1990 debut album, is primarily very solemn acoustic chamber music. Oddly though, a number of the songs also achieve cool, infectious grooves - without any use of rock drumming - but rather through the dynamic interplay of piano, bass and orchestral instruments. Recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Right rate:3stars 1/2,but their definitive style isn't here, December 18, 2002

2ND ISSUE AS FOR FURTHER CLARIFICATIONS IN BOLD CHARACTER:
Their definitive style has not been settled yet!! Nevertheless you can start to appreciate their typical trademark, that is a taste for the experimentations, even if in this case such experimentations are often within the song-format...well actually "European things", which is a TRIBUTE to Zappa, then also "To Black", are excellent songs, by means of beautiful performances at cello and piano as well,BUT THIS ALBUM IS NOT THE FIRST PLACE TO START WITH, AS THEY DON'T USE ELECTRICAL INSTRUMENTATION HERE AND THE RESULT IS A CERTAIN IMMATURITY;BESIDES THE BAD ENGLISH WITH ACCENTED VOCALS (EVEN THOUGH THE FEMAL VOICE IS NOT BAD)MAKE US SUGGEST TO START LISTENING TO THE NEXT FOLLOWING ISSUES... in fact all the lyrics are in english within the present issue, and despite of its main defect-as explained above-the output is good at last; however better things had to come, because They are still connected-here-to the crimson sound ("ISLANDS" ERA),all along the album !!

Recommended, but before this one start with "De Profundis".
