This is an original source text by two eye-witnesses to the events. It's the one cited by everyone else. Eminently readable and informative. I belong to an old-west re-enactment group; this book was invaluable to discover what it was like in the few years before the railroads came, and after gold was discovered. Many of our towns in Colorado were built along the route laid out by these courageous pioneers and entrepreneurs. This is their story. It's a quality hardcover, nicely bound, heavy acid-free paper, wide margins - the sort of book you don't see much anymore but love to hold in your hands. Reprinted by Higginson Book Co, Salem Mass.
