beautiful photography, refreshing imagery,

I do not own this book, but had to review Audrey Heller's work after seeing her booth at the Old Town Art Fair in Chicago this weekend. Her photos are amazing! I would say that the two additional images shown on this Amazon site (the flowers) don't do the book justice. Her colors are rich, her themes vary, and the figurines are placed everywhere: on typewriters, old books, hanging out of boats, etc.
I will definitely buy the book for friends as gifts, particularly those who appreciate photography.

The Best Coffee Table Book,
By LR Flynn (Sausalito, CA United States) - See all my reviews

I first saw Audrey Heller's work at the Sausalito Art Festival about 3 years ago and found it entertaining, thoughtful, imaginative and wonderful. I bought one of her works for my office, during an open studio and have sent out her holiday cards. Having limited space on my walls and budget, I am delighted to have more of her creations in a book I can enjoy on a regular basis. I bought one for myself and plan to give one as a gift. Her photos make me smile, think and laugh. Her little people are engaged in the most interesting activities from sunning on a bunch of grapes to diving into a glass of champagne. How can you not love that??

Back in our graduate school days, Audrey Heller and I were sure we'd grow up to become serious avant-garde theater directors. Then one days she showed me some of her photos -- little tiny people riding little tiny bicycles on the lip of a great big canyon -- and I saw her artistic future. Twenty years later, Overlooked Undertaking is the fulfillment of that promise. The photos in this book are magical delights. It's the rare artist who put as much humor into an image as resonance. And ultimately, her theatrical training paid off; she elicits ingenious, nuanced performances from her tiny plastic actors.

Just saw Audrey at the Park City Arts Festival and wanted to buy all of her pieces - thank goodness she had this book or else I would have been in the poor house for sure! She is SO creative and talented and really does see things in a unique way (as she tells in her book). A must have!

"It's a no brainer",
This review is from: Overlooked Undertakings (Hardcover)
Ms. Heller was one of the artists at the Art Fair on the Square here in Madison this past weekend. While I was making my way around her booth, I bumped into a friend who was also enthralled by Audrey's work. My friend noticed I was buying Audrey's book, Overlooked Undertakings, and said she should buy it as well. I told her, and Audrey, that buying the book was a No-Brainer.
I think my Christmas shopping will be done very soon, and it's only July! I guess I'd be shocked if anyone receiving this as a gift was anything less than giddy.

Well worth owning,
This review is from: Overlooked Undertakings (Hardcover)
Audrey Heller's photographs present the familiar in an unfamiliar way, making you stop and remember how you used to see when you were a child. Tiny scuba divers ponder the bowl of Shredded Wheat they're about to plunge into, while miniature painters adjust the colors of the roses. My personal favorite is an image of a teensy scrubwoman, putting elbow grease into cleaning up a naughty passage from Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew. Heller's imaginative photos are beautifully rendered in this large format book, which is well worth owning.

I found Audrey Heller's book of photographs beautiful and fun to look at. The pictures are full of whimsy, humor and imagination, as well as lovely. I enjoy looking at each one closely and carefully, and they make me smile.
