I really enjoyed this game. Overlord is one of the few titles on PS3 that will allow you to play a strategy-type game (but also retains some optional first-person smiting of your own). You're leading a pack of minions of several types, and have to use them strategically to win your battles.
Even though at a first glance the Overlord you're controlling is an evil creature, the gameplay allows you to proceed through the game doing mostly noble and helpful deeds, while listening to lots of humorous feedback. Throughout the game, it retains an enjoyable light-hearted atmosphere, without the usual "save-the-mankind-from-doom-and-gloom" setting. Animation and graphics look a bit dated, but this doesn't get in the way of fun. Definitely, a recommended purchase if you're looking for a new type of PS3 entertaining. If you want to try it out, just download a free demo from the PSN store, I think it gives an accurate impression of the whole experience.

Being Evil isn't so bad...,

When this was put out for the X-Box 360 and PC there was complaints about controling your minions and no map, bugs in the system. There have been great improvements for the PS3. There is a map, so now you don't run around in circles. Monions are very easy to control, they are still playful and love getting drunk and pissing on the floor. It doesn't take much to upset the towns people.
I believe anyone who like adventure games would enjoy this.

Overlord Raising Hell is a good game if you like to command units to do your bidding.
In this game you need to reclaim your dark kingdom because your castle has been destroyed by some meddlesome heroes. They killed your predecessor so now you need to take over your kingdom once again. In the beginning of your game you go in search of your different types of minions because they have been scattered over the world. If you are good at strategy games you will re conquer your kingdom in no time but you need to have patience. The game sometimes gets challenging because you will be travelling through large lands and sometimes it seems like a maze. The game gets fun when your minions clash with large groups of enemies. Sometimes your minion horde is totally destroyed then you will find yourself fighting for your life so you should always have your best weapon handy. There are 4 kinds of minions that you can command. - Brown minions are your main fighters and they can take the most damage so you would want to have more of them than any other unit. - Green minions are smelly creatures but they are very sneaky while guarding. They are almost unnoticeable if only they could take a bath so you may not want them to guard against animals. They are also the only unit that can get rid of plants that give off noxious fumes that kill any other minion. - Blue minions can cross water and are the only minions that can any other unit would drown they are very magical and can raise dead minions if you get them there in time. They are horrible fighters but if you fight spirits like wisps or ghosts they are the only unit that can combat them. - Red minions are fiery creatures that can throw fire balls at enemies. They are good at killing unarmed units because they can light them on fire. Red minions are the only unit that can extinguish flames that would kill any other unit. If you use your minions and weapons right you will find yourself becoming a very powerful overlord. -- Alan was here _______________________________ Note: Alan is my 12 yr. old son and the above is his review. He got Overlord because he was a very good student last year and this was one of the rewards he wanted.

The game Overlord: Raising Hell, is a fun, amusing little gane, At the current $30-$40 price point it's well worth the dollars. The key idea of this game (unlike most arcade games) is that you do NOT attack or affect the enemies directly (except under the most dire of circumstances). Instead you control your minions and let THEM do the dirty work for you. They'll even bring back your money and treasure after they get done looting the room and killing the monsters. There's a fair amount of resource management (being sure you have enough of each minion to accomplish some particular task), and a lot of strategy and puzzle solving (putting certain minions in certain spots to control the fight). It really is a blast, and the cutscenes and NPC animations etc. are quite amusing.

This game breaks from the boring cookie cutter sports and FPS games. It has a fantasy lord of the rings feel. Excellent next generation PS3 graphics. Overall outstanding visuals, fun gameplay, highly recommend for someone looking to get away from the norm.

I've had this game for some time now. I love the game play, being able to control the minions as you walk around each world. You can decide to be evil and keep the locals under your thumb, or be kind and merciful. (you get more power for being evil) And the game builds as you go. You learn to control your minions, you get new kinds of minions as you go, and new weapons and powers. Control is good and not as complicated as some others say it is. In most games you can control the view of your character with the right thumb stick, but that is used to control your minions in this game, so that is one thing common in most games not found in this one that takes some getting used to, but that was about it. Most the rest of it is learn as you go and enjoy being EVIL!

I had fun playing this game when it was on the 360. Since I've given up on microsoft's console and play on a PS3, I added this game to my collection so I could play through without my console giving me a red ring of death every 7 months.
Overlord is a fun game, it takes a while to get used to controlling your overlord and getting the knack of controlling your minions at the same time, but once you do it's great to rampage through town, killing halflings and dwarves & drinking their beer. the game gets a strategic feel later on when you start controlling various colors of minions with different strengths and properties. Highly recommended for folks who like action games with a strategic twist. It's fun to be the bad guy! The only disappointment I had with this title is there is no trophies enabled for it. I'm not a trophy hunter, but it would've been nice.

If you've had enough of Lord of the Rings and feel that Sauron should get a chance to win his battle for mastery of Evil over all things good give this game a chance. All versions are great fun and the minions are cute and hilarious while trying to help the "Master".
