Being very much into early Motorhead and the Fast Eddie period, I had ignored most of Motorheads albums after 1916, the album not the year. But this cd is honestly one of the bands best ever. Its both more thrashy and melodic...definitely more crafted in songsmanship than later albums like Sacrifice, but not as slick (a good thing to me) as Bastards. Its also got a very unified feel to it.The best compliment I can make about Overnight Sensation is that I now have to add at least four or five songs from it to my running list/cd compiliation of Motorheads best songs. And its a testament to this bands greatness that their best stuff will not even fit on two 80 minute cds anymore. Not that I am complaining.

Lemmy's mastery comes again,

This is an album that i loved as soon as I put it in. The riffs stay in my head for days. Its simple and to the point. It sticks to the motorhead formula of hard and fast and rates as one of my favorite albums.

Stronger songs than Sacrifice,

Ok, so you skip the last song. So what? Lemmy howls wickedly on every song. What more do you want? The disc opens up with both barrels smoking (the rock and roar of "Civil War" and "Crazy Like A Fox"). "I don't believe a word" is a brilliant ballad without any illusions. "Eat the Gun", "Overnite Sensation", and "Love Can't Buy You Money" deal with the topics of sex, money, and sex & money. "Them Not Me" is an ironic satire about who's to blame for all the world's troubles. The whole album thrusts along at the frenetic pace Motorhead is famous for. If your stereo can play loudly, feed it this CD!

Thank God that Lemmy and his crew were NOT "overnight sensations," i.e., some one-hit wonder band, here today, gone tomorrow. No, rather, Motorhaed never went for easy fame. Rather, they put their noses to the grindstone and did it the old fashioned way: Endless touring, churning out meatgrinder music to make some eardrums bleed, cranking it up to 11."Overnight Sensation" is thematically more of the same for this consistent group: Friedrich Nietzsche watching a peep show. The opening tune, "Civil War" drew me to buy this disc: Death, destruction, demolition (3D), plus Mikkey D's killer drum solo opening the disc. But, lemmy's excellent bass riffs in songs like "Crazy Like a Fox" and the title cut, keep me coming back for more. Listen to the bass reverb in this last -- not all muddied up like the garbage you hear from those showoffs who blast their subwoofers in their cars to impress passersby. No, Lemmy's bass is clean and full of vibrato, without sacrificing raw power. Some good Lemmy social commentary in "Eat the Gun" and "Murder Show." Some heretical Lemmy in "I Don't Believe A Word." And, who hasn't thought the same "I'm glad it's them and wasn't me" when hearing tragic news?

Motorhead deliver the hard rock goods yet again.,

Motorhead's "Overnight Sensation" is another monster album from a truly monster band! "White noise is coming" are the first words you hear on opening cut "Civil War" and rarely has there been a clearer statement of intent. Bam! Right upside the head and we're off. Track two, "Crazy Like A Fox", comes at ya in the locomotive style that is Motorhead's trademark. Bassist/vocalist Lemmy even throws in a harmonica solo of all things, but sure enough it works! From there the excellence continures 'til the final track has ended. After over twenty years of releasing albums, Lemmy & Co. are still at the top of their craft. I rate it as one of their best and recommend it as a great starter for those unfamiliar with the band. One listen will also confirm my belief that Mikkey Dee is truly one of rock music's most underrated Drummers and Motorhead's secret weapon. I give 'em Five Big, Fat Stars!!!!!

Motorhead - 'Overnight Sensation' (CMC International),

Good worthy follow-up to their 'Sacrifice' effort. Some fans say this CD is Motorhead's most diverse work in years.Still a great catalog title from Lemmy and crew, that's a true keeper.Well,to MOST Motorhead fans it is.Tracks that I thought made the grade were the metal gems,"Civil War","Eat The Gun",the humorous "Crazy Like A Fox" and the steady rocker "Shake The World". Also liked "Love Can't Buy You Money". It's just that I've got SO much Motorhead and I still don't have every one of their releases. Maybe half of their repertoire. Still churning out that must-have British heavy metal after all these years.

Motorhead kills with this one! A powerfull Motorhead effort, I love what this band does and stands for. No compromise no change just charging straight ahead with pure basic rock n roll fast and loud. Even the sound on this one is equalized not allowing any one instrument or lead to dominant , although there is some of Campbells guitar leads that I would have liked to have heard pulled out alittle more.Overnight is one of my favorite Motorhead cds, and I still believe that this line up is the best ever! Who needs the speed metal, or thrash or death metal bands when we have Motorhead. They led the way , stayed the course, and set the bar for what they do and noone does it better. I dont go so far as saying that Lemmie is God, no there is only one of Him. But, Lemmie deserves all the acolades that he gets and hasnt yet gotten. Motorhead and I mean all the past members and present should be in the rock n roll hall of fame. But we all know that thats all a sham right now. The song Love wont Buy You Money is one of my favorites on this album, while its not the typical speed Motorhead it is definitely one of their best and Lemmie scores again with the lyrics. Overnight Sensation is a Motorhead album that all Motorheads should own. Its also a good one to introduce Motorhead to anyone who has yet to be bitten by the sound of Motorhead. So if ya havent heard Overnight you need to, itll kick your ass !

A good album,

I love Motorhead . Its one of my favorite bands . Especially Ace of Spades and Overkill are masterpieces. Well this album is not so good as their previous but is good. Its aggressive and there is passion in the music. I Lemmy was a little bit younger then he would have sound much better. If you are a Motorhead fan you will probably like this album, but if you expect another Ace of Spades -> well it is not. Made your choice
