Britneys beautiful Overprotected & Slave 4 U!,
By mystic_songbird (Overland Park, Ks) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Overprotected / I'm a Slave 4 U (Thunderpuss Radio Mix) (Audio CD)
The biggest reason to buy this Britney single is for Britney's interview track as well as the essential remix of Slave 4 U done by none other than the brilliant Thundperpuss! Check out the Amber single "Sexual" that contains a remix done by Thunderpuss as well! Brit's Overprotected single starts off with the original album version of the song "Overprotected." It is very upbeat and the lyrics explain how young people are not given enough freedom from their parents and that they need more freedom to grow as their own person. I can really relate to it although I am now 29. However, tracks 2 & 3 are basically trancey remixes of "Overprotected". Track 2 you can tollerate even if you are not into trance mixes that much. I think that many people will still like it. I personally like it. It sounds way different than Brit's album version. I sort of am so I pretty much like it. If you didn't like Brit's remix of Crazy done by Spacedust then you wouldn't like this remix either. Track 3 is another "Overprotected' remix done by JS16. However, it really is not very Britney at all! There are no Britney lyrics in this one because for whatever reason JS16 did a dub with this one. Why Jive label released this track is beyond me. Track 4 is a personal interview where you will find out about Britney's tastes, styles, and feelings about music, fashion, and being a pop music icon and role model. Britney is very candid and mature in her interview. It is cool. Track 5 is the album version of "I'm a Slave 4 U.' If you have'nt heard this you don't know what you are missing. The video is incredible too. That is not included with this however. The song is about pure sexual feelings and eroticism on the dance floor. It goes right thru the roof with sexual energy! It is awesome and proves Britney's future staying power for years to come. Finally, track 6 is the final track and is a 10++++. The remix of genius remixers named THUNDERPUSS!!!! All I can say is that this track is more than worth the price of the single itself. Every other track on this is merely a bonus buy hon. Grab this import if you can find it now, Okkay! Byya bababy.

Britney tells it like it is...,

Disrespect her no more!! This has GOT to be my favorite Britney song ever!! Who can help dancing to this? And the lyrics...wow! I didn't know she had such creativity in her. The thought of ditching her previous producers and releasing the "DarkChild" mix only was a step forward in Spear's career. Even though Rodney Jenkins recycles effects from Brandy (hear "happy" from her album, "Never S-A-Y- Never" it's still great. The a'capella like background of edited noise from Brit as well as the catchy chorus go along nicely together. She has now told the world what she wants. I didn't know there was so much she had to deal with when she was little...and what great way to tell it then thru this song! If you liked this one then I also reccomend her single previous to this "Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman." Another personal tale with good lyrics. This song recieves an A+ from me.

This was a good choice for a second single. The remixes of 'Overprotected' aren't as good as the 'Darkchild' ones, but the 'I'm A Slave 4 U' remix is awesome. :=)

Best on the album,
This review is from: Overprotected / I'm a Slave 4 U (Thunderpuss Radio Mix) (Audio CD)
This single was the one that Britney decided to release rather than 'Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman' outside of the USA. Undoubtedly this is the best on the album and a good follow-up to her much-acclaimed yet surprising single 'Slave 4U'. Whereas 'Slave' was definitely a new direction for Britney stylistically, this is back to her usual pop and should serve fans of her more traditional music well. Saying that, it's still got that 'edge' to it that all of her singles seem to have. This again goes to prove that Britney can add to her winning formula whilst still retaining her pop roots. The remixes included here aren't too interesting, but the single itself is just fantastic.

Overprotected Remix Bites, But Slave Remix A Must Have,
By
This review is from: Overprotected / I'm a Slave 4 U (Thunderpuss Radio Mix) (Audio CD)
Though here in the US, Britney has released "I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman" as her second single from the "Britney" album, overseas, "Overprotected" is the second single. Hopefully, we'll see remixes of "Not A Girl" eventually. Unfortunately, this import single has only one remix of "Overprotected" and a dub of the remix. Done by JS16, it's got a trancey feel, but only uses a little bit of the original's lyrics. But, the single is a must have for the Thunderpuss remix of "I'm A Slave 4 U" which was only available on vinyl until now. It is a radio edit version, but is still groovelicious. Thunderpuss speeds up the song, but still manages to maintain it's sexy vibe. A must have for all you Britney fans.

I really like this CD. It's a very good song and it's my favorite off the new Britney Album. The first track on the single is the album version of Overprotected, which is great! Tracks 2 and 3 are pretty much the same remix of Overprotected, which are ok! The remixes basically just repreat the word "Overprotected" over and over, and that's about it. The britney interview is pretty good and it is interesting. Track 5 is the album version of "I'm a slave 4 u" which is great. Track 6 is the thunderpuss remix of Slave 4 u which is great. I love this remix. Over all, the cd is ok and if your a huge Brit fan, it's a most have with exclusive remixes and the bonus interview.

Why Did They Edit the Thunderpuss Remix?,
By The Groove (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews

First of all, skip the track "Overprotected." It's a whiny, self-absorbed declaration of independence written by Swede Max Martin. Instead, go directly to the Thunderpuss remix of "I'm a Slave for You." This track, originally produced by the Neptunes, gets a highly energetic treatment from Chris Cox and Barry Harris. Unfortunately, I still can't totally recommend this CD on the strength of the Thunderpuss remix, for it is only the edited version. I would have eliminated the boring "interview" and instead made room for the full-length remix. Britney fans will lap this up, but casual listeners should make a U-turn and avoid.

Should Have Been Better,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Overprotected / I'm a Slave 4 U (Thunderpuss Radio Mix) (Audio CD)
Britney could have put in a little more effort in this single. OVERPROTECTED is a great song, but the JS16 Remix & Dub are sort of annoying - plus she doesnt really sing at all in them & it has all these cranium cracking rhythms going on at the same time that just make you get a bad headache, i mean bad. The interview is a waste of CD space, i hate it when she talks because she is sort of boring to listen to. I'M A SLAVE 4 U is the song i like the least, when she pops a bad word + the drum beats in there are disgusting. But the Thunderpuss Radio Mix is pretty good, i can make an exception on that one. And the Enhanced CD Section has the trailer of "Crossroads" with her singing a performance of Overprotected during all the outtakes are showing. Sort of a boring Trailer/Music Video. Don't waste your money on this one. If you want more of her buy her album BRITNEY which is what you call SO much better.
