5.0 out of 5 stars wow! overshot, September 6, 2008
This review is from: Overshot is Hot!: The Best of Weaver's (Best of Weaver's series) (Paperback)
When I started weaving MANY years ago, overshot just fascinated me. However, it did seem regulated to doing placemats and napkins and I quickly lost interest. This book has renewed my interest in trying this "basic" weave structure in new and exciting ways -- now, I just need to find the time to try some of Madelyn's excellent suggestions!

This book shows that weaving in overshot is no longer passe - it's HOT! Very cool designs and manageable projects make this book an excellent choice for weavers who are curious about the technique but have always thought it was just for "old school" craftspeople. Give it a "shot"!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best of Weaver's, July 3, 2009
The magazine "Weaver's" is defunct but you can find a few archives hidden away in weaver's guilds. However, the patterns live on in this the sixth book in the "Best of Weaver's" series.

Many of the patterns are four shaft overshot. The patterns in standard layouts assume that you have been weaving for some time and can interpret them. Some projects can be complex I prefer simple samplers. Maybe one day I will branch out. This is a great training book and it does not try to be cutesy.

The pictures are color glossy. Most are close enough to see the designs in detail.

When your stash starts to run low there is a supplier list in the back of the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring Book, June 26, 2009

If you enjoy weaving, get this book! I have used it as a "cook-book" for book marks, and people just love them. I did have to correct an error in the drawdown but that was very easy if you followed the pattern. Somehow they just skipped a couple of pics. Put them in and the pattern is marvelous. Get the book, READ the book, it will inspire you to warp your loom and try some fancy weave structures. I LOVE it and I'm only a beginner (weaving for about 3 years only).

5.0 out of 5 stars Madelyn ROCKS!, January 11, 2012

Of all the weaving experts out there Madelyn van der Hoogt is one of my favorites. She has a way of explaining weaving drafts that finally makes sense. I also recommend her book 'Complete Book of Drafting' and her DVD 'Handwoven Fabric: Structure and Pattern'. I taught myself to weave using her references. Madelyn, your my hero!
