The plot is simple: A girl (Sara) meets a boy (Miles). They marry quickly. He gives her his bank account and the directive to set up a home for them. Then he goes away to his job somewhere, promising to be back.

The rest is not so simple.

His firm doesn't exist. He doesn't return. People are killed and the purr of a panther lures Sara into a world that may or may not exist. Perhaps she falls into a drug-induce delusion or maybe she's in a dream. Still yet, she may be in that "dream within a dream" where the meaning of things is irrelevant because everything has a different meaning inside those tiers of half-sleep. In the end, she may even be of another world and another race. Possible? That's up to you as the reader.

Brilliant prose. Brilliant twists and turns that leave you bewildered, yet enchanted. I want Sara to find Miles. I want them both to survive. I even feel for Anton who must in the end vanish. I never want the panther to disappear. And I'm left with questions that I'll have to mull for a time about who Sara really is.

One of the best books I've read in a while. I loved falling into the story.

Overtaken is the story of Sara, a young woman who can't make heads or tails of the life she's in. It's all shrouded in mystery and confusion. Things get really crazy after she marries Miles, a man she has only known for three days. He leaves on a business trip and doesn't return. Alone in a house that seems to purr, she becomes dillusional, having realistic dreams that take her into another world filled with magic and danger. As she flits between the world she thinks she knows and the mysterious world, she learns how the two are entwined and discovers the truth about herself.

Overtaken is a real page-turner. Readers will be captivated, wondering if Sara is truly dillusional, or if there really is another world. It's a story with all the makings of a fairy tale - a "princess," a villian, and a handsome "prince." It's a little darker than a child's fairy tale, though. There are murders, black magic, and a "princess' who drinks a little too much. With its rich descriptive writing and well-paced action, Overtaken is a book that will appeal to adults who haven't lost their love of fairy tales.
