Born at an early age in a small, modest northern cabin that he helped his father build, Marvin D Wilson has no sense of humor and always tells the truth as it appears on the surface of apparency. He's a tell it like it is realist, a husband, father and grandfather and all around swell guy.
Marvin D Wilson is a writer and blogger, an author with the audacity to write and publish novels. He enjoys delivering spiritual and inspirational messages in his own inimitable humorous, poignant, oftentimes irreverent, at times shocking, and sometimes sexy way, through the spinning of an entertaining tale.
OWEN FIDDLER is a spiritual story from a Christian perspective. It's also told from a very secular point of view. If you are offended by some profanity and sex then you should be forewarned that this book contains both albeit in very modest doses.
If you're past that, then you're ready to delve into this earthy earthly morality tale that's got one eye heavenward bound and the other studying things here at home. Owen Fiddler is a guy who feels misunderstood and may be misunderstood at times. He feels that he has been dealt a bad hand in life so he doesn't feel compelled to play life's game by the rules.
Owen goes through life with one mistake leading to another. Even when good things come his way he manages to screw things up. When it looks like Owen's life has really started going down the toilet, an amazing series of events occur as fate, or perhaps even the hand of God, step in to confront Owen with the man he has been, the man he is now, and the man he can be. Will he make the right decisions? Can he become a truly changed man?
The book brings up important issues in a sometimes controversial way. The characters are much like people you know or live in your own neighborhood. The incidents are like things that could really happen. The story is nicely told with a fast pace that keeps things moving. There were times when I wanted more details about certain things, but the author has wisely chosen to keep the story compact and focused on the message.
And there is a message. However, this message is delivered carefully and with affection. The story leaves you with a smile and a ray of hope for all of us.Read more ›

The main character in Owen Fiddler is ... Owen Fiddler. Owen comes from a good and caring family. He has led a troubled childhood where a series of bad decisions have sent him to jail, hardened his outlook on life, and taught him to look out for number one. He never learns from his mistakes and therefore continues to repeat them well into adulthood. Owen has never accepted responsibility for his mistakes and as such blames his faults on anyone except himself.
Finally, Owen has a chance to make a good life with a wonderful woman, Jewel. They fall deeply in love, marry, and have a lovely daughter, Frenda. Jewel is everything Owen admires, at least in the short term, but shortly he grows bored and seeks extra-marital excitement. Seven years into what Jewel believed to be a lifelong marriage, she divorces Owen because she has found proof that he has indeed returned to his womanizing party animal persona.
The single bond Jewel and Owen will always share is their special daughter, Frenda. Both love her more than anything else, and have watched her grow from a majestic child into a spectacular young woman. Tragically, one New Year's Eve she is killed. Jewel is beside herself with grief. Through a series of conversations Owen has found himself in a predicament that later reveals itself to be potentially negligent in his daughter's untimely death. Ridden with guilt he drowns his sorrow in booze, women, and anything else that dulls the pain.
Owen has made some very bad decisions in his life.Read more ›
When you are at your lowest, sometimes you need a 'reality check' or a 'vision from beyond' to guide your way. That is exactly what Owen Fiddler needed to turn his life around. His life was at one point meaningful with a wife and young daughter but he messed that up. It wasn't until one greddy moment, one heartbreaking incident that changed Owen forever. Even if you are a non-believer as I was, you will be touched by reading this book which I highly recommend.
Owen Fiddler was an engaging and entertaining read. While Owen is definitely a character one may easily despise, he is also one that readers can connect with. He shows the selfishness that can overtake the human spirit in times of trouble, but his story also reveals a light at the end of the tunnel.
I would recommend this book to anyone who has lived through, or is going through, things in their life that they feel are beyond their own control. It was a great read!
I used to think that for something to be Great, it had to make me cry. I'm not an easy crier, so to find greatness was always a challenge. This book did not make me cry (though the final confession scene between Owen and his ex-wife Jewel DID make me a tad misty). No. I've since changed my mind. Art is truly Great when it makes us think of things differently, view them with new and different eyes and challenge those old perceptions we once held.
Author Marvin Wilson managed this SUPERBLY with the story of Owen Fiddler. The writer uses an eloquent language to elevate his tale. His descriptions are often poetic and lyrical to the point where they reach elegance, even in a story that reveals so little beauty until its memorable conclusion. He took me into a world I always knew existed, but had always did my best to avoid.
Being one who does not like to be hit over the head with religion lessons, Owen Fiddler made me appreciate that The Word does not necessarily need to bombard us in order to be FELT, digested or absorbed. This is a morality tale at its finest.
Wilson, as the writer-storyteller became a wicked force, a sexy force, a spiritual force, and most of all, an Enlightened force. Once turning the final page of this opus, I could honestly say I felt CHANGED from having read it.
