Bought this from Home Depot for a little over 40 dollars. I had already put foam insulating tape around the edges of the attic pull-down stairs, but the attic door cover was at least 20 degrees colder than the ceiling around it. I used the wonderful Black & Decker TLD100 Thermal Leak Detector to check the temps. Once I installed the Insulator, the temperature difference went to less than 2 degrees difference from my celing.
The product is very easy to install, and very easy to move out of the way when needing access to the attic. You unfold it and let it rest on the attic floor around the opening for the stairs. And it is less than half the price of the Battic attic insulator. This product is a no-brainer.

This product does the job. Simple. Effective. Nothing fancy. But two things to consider. First you can get this product at Home Depot or Lowes for considerably less. Second, the second photo of the product above is not the product, but rather a competitor's product that was scanned in by ur-uh -- a competitor?

I added 9" of insulation to the exsisting 6" this past fall. I also bought and used one of these insulating tents. Over the course of the winter, I noticed a big dip in the amount of snow on my roof, right above the attic stairs and a big ice dam forming. All my heat loss was funneled to that area and melted a lot snow. I can not get a good seal around the bottom of the tent. It just uses it's own weight to stay in place and it's impossible to seal the gaps. This spring, I will build an insullating box over my stairwell. Does anyone want to buy a slightly used insulating tent, cheap?

All it is is R10 insulation with foil
Based on the picture it looks like your buying an insulated tent. What you get is R10 insulation shaped like a pita pouch. It is totally flimsy without a single rigid part. Read more

Attic Stair Insulator

Will not work on most attics - nothing but a shaped blanket
