It's the summer of love again,

This review is from: Owl & Timber (Audio CD)
This is an interlude CD between their debut and whatever's up next, and in general it contains enough meat to be recommended. The main draw is probably the extended Grateful Dead style excursion, "County Line", with genuine soft Garcia touches in the guitar lines (out of "Blows Against the Empire"), that turns into a San Francisco style rock anthem with a blissy ending, pretty good stuff. I also like "Got it All", a real prototypical pop song for their style, and "Out to Sea", with a country Byrds and CSN sound.
That's telling, you'd have to either look back fondly on "Uncle John's Cabin", or be young enough not to know what I'm talking about to be fully engaged here. Personally the Dead made me puke most of the time, but I still like this band for some reason. That doesn't mean I can stand something as gay as "Don't Hold Back", so this gets a three from me. But hey, it's cheap, so check it out, there's good value here, especially if you like the sound more than me.
