5.0 out of 5 stars Foster's excellent story collection ROCKS!, February 3, 2005
This review is from: Owl Time (Paperback)
The future of film-making was predicted in M. A. Foster's excellent 1985 novella/short story "Entertainment", found in his excellent collection titled _Owl Time_ from DAW.

"Entertainment" is set in the distant future, in a city controlled by a computer where the people mostly focus on creating multi-media entertainment or "movies". The computer allows them to take any musician and actor from the past, combine them in any way -- Bach playing Genesis songs onstage with Jim Morrison and everyone dressed in Edwardian costume. They also go through old black and white movies and remove the cigarettes and smoke -- something that is being done right now.

BTW - I highly recommend any of M. A. Foster's books, a good start is _Waves_. Very thoughtful and well-written in the descriptive and stylistic manner of Jack Vance and Gene Wolfe.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, thought-provoking writing, November 28, 2006
This review is from: Owl Time (Paperback)
As with all Foster's books, you will spend a lot of time thinking about the possibilities he unveils. This is his only short story collection... so far. But he's not done writing yet!

Now here's some good news for those fans who have been trying to find a copy of his books since they went out of print a couple of decades ago: both the "Ler" series and the "Morphodite" series are back, in two collections called "The Book of The Ler" and "The Transformer Trilogy", respectively, and they are available right here on Amazon. Enjoy!
