Book Description

Conrad, like most Americans, felt imprisoned to a soulless corporation. Dreams of escaping the 9-5 and permanently walking away from cubicle row dominated his thoughts.

But that was just daydreaming. Mortgage payments, car notes and credit card debt were just a few of the shackles that kept him bound to an existence that he didn't want.

He and his wife started working on a revolutionary concept. They started actively designing a life they would like to live instead of living a life that was arbitrarily unfolding before them.

They finalized their escape plan and with fear and trepidation of an unknown future, they began a new life.

If you have every thought about quitting your job, selling all of your stuff and sailing away, this book is for you. Conrad does an excellent job of telling their story in a "laugh out loud" manner that will take you from his last days as an employee at a refinery to their garage sale where they eliminated most of their possessions to loading up their boat and sailing away.

This book is certainly not for everyone. If you can't fathom the humor in a story about unpleasant medical visits then you should look elsewhere. If you are a sailing purist and want to hear stories about giant waves and near death experiences, there is nothing like that in this book.

If you would like to read a funny book that will have you laughing out loud about a family's pursuit of escaping the 9 to 5 and living a life of travel and adventure, then you will certainly enjoy this story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Some life perspectives, with a bit of humour thrown in! November 5, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Really enjoyed the thought provoking process of getting from idea of the lifestyle change, through to reading about the sailing trip. Some of the budgeting parts were very interesting, and the thought of cutting back on possessions is something we could all benefit from! It was a good hybrid story of how to do something, and a real life story about putting it in practice with some of the good and bad that unexpectedly happened. Could have had a bit more personal details about income and how the family felt about things along the way, but not everyone wants to have all their personal details in their book, and I do understand that. It was an easy to read story and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Motivating! October 12, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A quick read with lots of info. I agree totally on how the author feels about the workplace and I give him a high five to having enough guts and motivation to enjoy his life while he's still young enough to enjoy it. I know where that place is that asks you to name a song when you order, that's one of the best places in the Keys! Sometimes they ask for a movie or a city! I'd recommend this to anyone who needs some motivation to put a plan into place to break away from aging in a cubicle, and enjoy living!

Journey to another world by letting go of what you think is important to live your dream life in a congenial climate. The author tells you step by step how to do just that and shows you how rewarding it can be to live in another country. Author of a book about Baja....My Gold Coast---Baja

3.0 out of 5 stars It was okay... September 13, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I love the idea of this book, but there's so much that's not there. I love reading about people who leave their mortgage dependent, month-to-month existence to go do something different and real. This book is a quick, easy read, but lacks depth. There are times it feels like the author is setting up a story, only to let it drop. There was way too much on the guys medical clearance. The picture is the same at the start of every chapter. I'm glad I read it, but if you want a deeper read try Walden on Wheels by Ilgunas.

4.0 out of 5 stars Take the sails of your life September 23, 2014

Really great little tale of someone who took control of his life to live the way he wants to. I am inspired to do the same thing, only in an RV and not on a boat. Book needs some editing, but it's not too bad.

The book is an interesting anecdote of living outdoor life and a journal of truly gritty couple who faced life's challenges to fulfill their desire to be "different" from lay people.

Really enjoyed it - I have to admit in part because of a similar sense of humor! Also, it really makes you think about what is "normal".

More About the Author

See what I have been up to lately at www.OwnLessAndLiveMore.com

Being tired of the 9 - 5 work life, my wife and I quit our jobs, sold all of our stuff and sailed away. After two years of cruising on our sailboat on the warm clear waters of the Gulf of Mexico (and Atlantic Ocean) we decided to continue our lives of experiences instead of accumulation.

Now we search out things to do and learn like, ballroom dancing, speaking a second language, learning to play the guitar, creating an internet business, painting, sketching and of course writing books.

What's next for us? Currently we are living on and refurbishing a 49 foot DeFever motor yacht and once that is done we plan to cruise America's coastline and visit as many cities as possible. We are also planning a six month trip to Italy and we have always wanted to live on the west coast, for a year anyway.
