Are you invisible? Does it seem that nobody knows about you and what you do? Do you envy the go-to people in your field? Read this book and you will learn ways to build your reputation and become a go-to person yourself.

Own Your Niche explains the how-to of many dependable, respectable self-promotion techniques. The emphasis is on internet channels such as social media and blogging, and a number of good old-fashioned methods like speaking and using memorable business cards are also covered.

This is not a get-rich-quick book. It's a guidebook for people who are prepared to make an effort to become known in their fields.

If you have read a lot of books on marketing already some of what you may read here duplicates that, but most people forget so reading it again serves as a reminder. In addition, no two authors will ever have the same take on piece of advice and that is the case here. For example, Stephanie included some suggestions for how to use post cards that I had not seen anywhere else and it was very helpful. Let's face it, the amount of material written on direct mail marketing can reach the stratosphere so finding a different twist on it can be challenging, but she did it.

The book is packed with a lot of great short concise nuggets of information that is easy to quickly absorb and put into practice. In addition, she does a phenomenal job of digging up a lot of really great resources and including their web addresses as well as explaining what the service is and her own personal experience with using it, which I really liked. I thought the resource lists was one of the most valuable pieces of the book.

Finally, Stephanie writes in a style that lives up to her title of not being over the top hype. You really get the feeling as you read that she is a small business owner that has made both mistakes and successes; learned from them and is sharing that advice with you in a plain straightforward non-hype way. This is especially true in the online marketing section. This is very refreshing given the amount of hype that can show up on marketing web sites and books. This book is well worth the read and I promise you will walk away with multiple ideas to use in your own small business.

The author has hit the nail on the head with this one. In each chapter she details things you can do to make sure you get closer to owning your niche. In this no hype, detailed book, Stephanie shares exactly what will work for you to move your business ahead. I've known Stephanie (though not in person) since the early 2000s and have always found her advice for small business owners to be solid. You can't go wrong if you follow it. What I also really like about this book is that each chapter ends with an interview from a successful entrepreneur. Not only do you get the author's wise advice, but you also get advice from those who have been there and done that. If you are searching for help in your small business, this book would be a good choice for you.

I have Own Your Niche from Stephanie Chandler and love it! She is a perfect person to give this advice because she really knows her stuff and can "sell" it in a concise manner. I participated in a webinar she gave and she stays on task when giving instruction/information orally as well. If you get a chance I highly recommend both the book and any webinar or series she offers!

In an era where Google is now weighing heavily toward good quality content, Own Your Niche is a book you must have in your toolbox. I maintain a blog that helps authors plan and execute a book launch with tips, tutorials, and right now I'm working through designing a complete book launch campaign. Believe me, a lot of the great advice I learned from this book will go into the campaign's design. Chandler focuses on businesses, but the advice in this book could apply to authors, artists, musicians and anyone else who has a niche to promote. Of all the internet marketing books I've read, Own Your Niche has been the most helpful and one that I will likely return to again and again for guidance.

Stephanie Chandler illustrates her arguments with a personalized brand of wit and humor that I found to be engaging in her book, Own Your Niche: Hype Free Internet Marketing Tactics to Establish Authority in Your Field and Promote Your Service-Based Business. My personal favorite example is: “I see a lot of business owners throwing spaghetti at the walls to see what sticks” (Chandler). To offer context, Chandler is referring to how business owners view marketing strategies. I enjoyed Chandler’s use of conversational language, as it was a pleasant departure from academic reading and I was able to better sympathize with her as a person. Her points seemed more vivid as a result of this tone, and it was easier for me to focus on the content as opposed to translating it into some semblance of viable English.

Chandler’s advice equated to common sense: Spamming one’s customers with self-promoting emails, clickbaits, sweepstakes, offers for “exclusive coaching packages,” daily auto-reminders, or affiliate sales links is not a good way to promote customer respect. Chandler mentions in the introduction that one should “showcase your unique skills,” which suggests that one should differentiate oneself from competition as a marketing strategy, and in the first chapter she states that “audience should be narrowly defined,” which means that one should segment and target one’s market (Chandler). Without being too fussy about her language, Chandler is creating marketing strategies for the layman, and I think that is admirable. On these grounds alone I would firmly recommend this book to someone looking to promote a product.
