More extreme than I was expecting, but beautifully written and intriguing,

I bought this book because I found the premise--a woman being sent to a planet populated entirely by men to serve as a sexual slave--irresistable. It wasn't quite what I was expecting, however, and while I certainly found it interesting, I may not have purchased it if I understood exacrlt what I was getting better. But that being said, I'm sure there are a lot of people out there who will love it, and it might be worth a read if you find the idea intriguing. The reason I found this book to fall somewhat short of my expectations was because it wasn't just about sexual slavery, but a very extreme form of pet play. More than just a slave, Etrin is basically turned into a human animal, intensified by the fact that she doesn't know her owner's language and is not allowed to speak (which made of a dearth of sexy dialogue--one thing I like in good erotica). Garid treats her very very brutally, which is ultimately what she needs and what she was looking for when she purposefully got herself enslaved--the descriptions of her punishments and how she was treated are certainly interesting, but many of them went far beyond what I find erotic and sensual, so that was a drawback for me as well. Personally, if I'm going to read about someone who is made into a pet, I'd prefer to see a more cherished and pampered pet, as well as the punishments--this is mostly one cruel punishment after another. Anyway, despite the things that disappointed me, this book certainly kept my attention, even if it wasn't as arousing as I like my erotica to be (I can't say there was nothing arousing about it at all though!). So if the above sounds like something that interests you, go for it! The writing is beautiful and some people will love it, I just wanted people to have a good idea of what they are in for!

Owned and Owner is mind caviar,

Most Sci-fi and Fantasy genere will fall respectively into my least favorite category of reading. Jacob's book is not over powered with futuristic gobblie-gook, it is a subtle seasoning that does not interfere with the story. I was actually impressed with the originality of the setting. Jacob successfully found an unconventional way to project the mental and emotional battle of the Etrin's secret desires. She accurately revealed her subject's feelings of isolation and fear of discovery and resulting consequences.A good book touches you on an emotional level, good writing does not get in the way of the story, Anneke Jacob achieved both objectives in Owned and Owner. I was totally sucked into Etrin's harsh training and marveled how Jacob showed the justifiable psychology behind the cruel appearance of slave training in an accurate light. Jacob writes an intensely realistic story of consensual slavery and power exchange where the fantasy setting is the only thing that reminds the reader it's fiction. Owned and Owner is an exceedingly erotic read - If you get off on sexual - sadomasochistic domination you will not be disappointed with the menagerie of scenes between the Henth community of owners and their slaves. If you enjoy intelligent BDSM Owned and Owner is mind caviar. This book is bound (no pun intended) to be a classic. Dove - ST BDSM Ezine

Well written? Yes. Erotic? Parts of it, yes.I found this story a study in dehumanization and cruel conditioning, replete with months of strict bondage, months of orgasm denial; withholding of affection or any sort of human connection, denying speech or language usage and turning this woman who wanted to be a submissive slave into less than a dog. I'm into BDSM, but not dehumanization and particularly NOT pony play. I'd like my money back because had I known this book was about the dehumanization process and strict orgasm denial I would NEVER have purchased it. Do you rate a book based on how it makes you feel? How well it's written? How well it conveys the idea and mood the author wishes to explore? I'm not sure but I'll never read this author again.

Great first novel,
By comfort (Sydney) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Owned And Owner (Paperback)
This almost seems like a prequel to Annekes fabulous As She's Told.It is similar though different, but the total ownership of another human being is the general gist of both stories. The fact that Owned and Owner is set on another planet may make it easier to take for some readers but the human woman of this book is totally in agreement of her enslavement- she goes out of her way to be arrested and sent to the other planet so she can become a slave. There are a lot of scary images in this book, but a lot of loving ones also. I especially liked the tinkling bells scenario. It is not a life I would want to lead (in fact I am not sure if anyone would- but it is a very sensual, erotic story and a great lead in to As She's Told- which for me is the ultimate BDSM/erotic novel I have ever read

A WONDERFUL FANTASY!,
This review is from: Owned And Owner (Paperback)
Owned and Owner lets you leave reality behind and completely surround yourself in a fantasy-world of hot, hardcore bdsm. Who hasn't daydreamed about being someone's total slave, toy, or pet, and being made to bend totally to their will? About being completely controlled and "kept" for someone else's use?No playtime scenes and pussyfooting around here. This book fulfills that fantasy in the setting of an alternate reality and doesn't disappoint in the descriptive details! Etrin is purchased as a human "pet" by Garid and lives with him on a planet of men, distant from her own planet. For fans of objectification, you will find lots to salivate over here! I went wild for the way Garid uses her without apology. What's even more satisfying is that no matter how "cruel" and selfish her owner is in his use of her, Etrin enjoys every moment of what she endures; in fact, she has chosen it and is thrilled with her new life. She's getting exactly what she wants -- complete and utter surrender to the will of another. The erotic factor of this arrangement is scorching! I highly recommend this book!

Intelligent Interplanetary Erotica,
By dameholly (New England) - See all my reviews

Right from the beginning I was involved in this story. "Jeedy's" journey into submission is wonderfully chronicled, letting you travel with her and experience, through Jacob's spare yet effective writing, her arousal and humiliation (which she delights in). We also see her owner's mind set and his behavior never deviates from what you would expect given the premise of the story. Anneke Jacob's ability to bring you into the minds and hearts of these two makes for an incredibly erotic story that you will find yourself reading more than once- or twice!

The Gold Standard in Consensual Non-consent TPE,
By Critical Mass (Washington State, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Owned And Owner (Paperback)
This remarkable science fiction erotic novel follows the travails of Etrin, a woman determined to, by any means necessary, explore her lifelong obsession with submission and slavery. Her opportunity finally comes when she is given a chance to willingly give up her freedom and be sent to a planet populated almost entirely by men. She is enslaved forthwith, and begins a harrowing (and fascinating) journey into the depths of abject sexual submission.I first read this novel several years ago when it was first released, and read it again recently in order to prepare this review. It was as stunning the second time around as it was the first. This is the trailblazing benchmark of TPE consensual non-consent fiction against which all other such stories must be measured. In this reader's humble opinion it is still the very best of its kind. Consensual Non-consent can be thought of as analagous to deciding to jump from an airplane without a parachute. You get one decision - to "jump" or not to "jump" - and once you decide to take the leap, the rest is completely out of your hands. Such is the situation Etrin finds herself in upon her arrival on Henth. Ms. Jacob's sharp mind has come up with an elegantly simple, and cleverly written, plot device to allow the implausible fantasy of total (and I do mean TOTAL in every sense of the word) submission to be rendered not only plausible, but chillingly believable. She uses point of view shifts in a subtle way to not only break up the intensity of the narrative as told from Etrin's POV, but to help the reader feel the same sense of "otherness" that Etrin feels toward her captor(s). It is an unflinching portrayal of TPE (total power exchange), with 'exchange' as more of a plebiscite than anything else (i.e. she gets to exchange it once - and only once). It goes without saying that those of a vanilla bent to their sexual proclivities have no business even thinking about reading this book. If you aren't adventurous and/or really, really open-minded, you need to walk away from this one, stat. For those that are ready and able to handle this, they will not be disappointed. The plentiful and extremely hot sex is uniformly male dominant, female submissive. There are some hints of m/m at a few points, but these are mainly used to flesh out some of the societal details of Henthian life/culture. This story is one that can truly be called a BDSM tale, ensuring that the reader is exposed to all that that label implies. As you would expect there are copious amounts of spanking, caning, whipping (and just about every other kind of CP), a dizzying array of various types of bondage, and serious sadomasochism. There is much more than this of course, but I will leave the reader to discover the specifics. The story explores the Master/slave dynamic in a way that I have never seen before or since. There are industrial strength levels of humiliation in this story, much of it in the form of pet play and pony play. Most trying of all - and probably the most controversial - is the prolonged orgasm denial seen in this story. Some readers will be angered and/or repelled by it; I think it was a perfect fit for this fearless and unflinching look at what effectively unfettered TPE would actually mean. The intellectually honest reader may be shaken by the feelings this tale evokes in them (most notably a contradictory mix of both lust and sympathy for Etrin and her sisters in subjugation). I loved this book, even though it is truly disturbing in parts. I firmly believe that this will one day be regarded as a classic of erotic fiction. Disturbing though Owned and Owner is, it truly makes the reader think, and that is the highest form of praise I can give to any work of fiction. HIGHLY recommended.

Total Surrender,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Owned And Owner (Paperback)
What I found interesting about this book is both characters needed submission. He needed a woman who submitted to all his perverse needs and she wanted to be controlled of her willful ways. It was her choice to become his sex slave and pet. She could have chosen another option. The problem is that in this futuristic society, that heterosexuality is a rare commodity and looked at as abnormal behavior. The men who wanted a female as a slave or pet were looked at as a deviant. Homosexuality is the norm. Garid and his little " jeddy" found what they were looking for in each other. This book can be rather hardcore for people who are uncomfortable reading about degradation of women, but it was written intellectually in the first person. It is rare to find an author that takes you through her journey in the first person. It makes the reader feel like they are her and going through this journey with her. The book is highly sexual and brings "jetty's" intellect down to only filling primitive needs, that which belong to him. She is not allowed to speak and not allowed to learn his language. The ending is total acceptance of her belonging to him and his confirmation of ownership of her.

Curiosity bit me on the butt with this one and I couldn't even finish reading it. But while it's not my cup of tea, it might be someone's. In a nutshell - if you are into hardcore humiliation, slavery, physical punishment, sexual torture and dehumanization - then this may float your boat. I on the other hand will go screaming off in the other direction.
