OXBOW FAILS!!! (Updated),

I saw the two existing one-star reviews and ordered a bottle anyway, hoping my pigs would be the exceptions. Unfortunately the two previous reviewers were spot-on. My guinea pigs come running when they hear the bottle rattle, thinking they're getting the former version, GTN-50C, then I offer them the new Oxbow Daily C. They take the tablets, then spit them out immediately, and look at me with such a look of disappointment and betrayal!10 minutes later, I look back in the cage, and the tablets are still there, untouched. Oxbow did a huge disservice in reformulating a well-liked product, their GTN-50C. Unfortunately we're most of the way through our last jar of the older version, and now are trying to figure out what to do once it's gone. BOO OXBOW!!! October 2009 update: I'm bumping my rating up to two stars because after 3 months of trying, *some* of my animals have learned to like the new variety. One, however, still won't touch it. Why do companies insist on ruining good products by "improving" them???

What was Oxbow thinking?,

My guinea pig LOVED the old Oxbow GTN-50C Vitamin C tablets, but she HATES this new formula. I can't get her to eat them, and so am worried that her health might suffer. If Oxbow wanted to changed their formula for the heck of it, they should have just added this "new" version as an additional product, and still produced their old version. Now I have to shop around for a vitamin with another manufacturer and, hopefully, find another vitamin C product that she can tolerate. I'm really disappointed in Oxbow. Shame on them.

boo (to the new formula?),

We have been using the other Oxbow vitamins for over 2 years and the Guinnea Pigs would run across the cage at the sound of the jar opening. Now they won't have anything to do with these! They sniff and walk away. I don't know what's different but NOT the same.UPDATE: it took 2 months but they now take and eat this new formula just fine. yeah!

Our piggie loves them....,

I was a bit worried about ordering these after reading the reviews, but went ahead since our piggie had to go to the vet twice in the first month we had her for respiratory illness. Elly loves them. I cut them in half since most websites on guinea pigs recommend 25 mg. She snatches the tablet out of our hands, gobbles it up and comes sniffing back for more. I never had the opportunity to try the old formula, but am very satisfied with these!

No, they're not the same, but that doesn't make them bad,

Like others' pigs, mine loved the GTN-50 C tablets that Oxbow used to sell. When this became the replacement product, they weren't so sure about it, but I put them in their bowl anyway and within a couple of days they loved these tablets. Now they think they're a treat just like the previous product. While it's frustrating to deal with a product change, I'm not sure how comments to 'boycott' what is esteemed as the single best small animal feed producer will help anyone's guinea pigs. Try a bottle, and if the pigs won't come around, you can always give it to a vet, rescue, or shelter who can use the tablets. (Heck, you could probably eat them yourself!) This is a well-formulated product without the excess sugar you'll find in GNC-type brands. I would give this product five stars, but I really liked being able to purchase the larger quantity container of the previous product. The tablets themselves are five star to me, but packaging size is less efficient than it used to be. Perhaps that's due to expected shelf life, but those of us with multiple pigs prefer larger quantities. Thanks Oxbow!

great for Chino's health and my peace of mind,

I was worried that Chino wasn't getting enough vitamin c, as he is picky and doesn't always eat oranges. I found this product in a pet store and decided to try it. Not ever having had the old formula, we did not have a problem. He thinks the tablets are quite tasty and takes them from my hand. After reading these reviews and doing some research, I did decide to cut the tablets in half, as another reviewer did. A little inconvenient, but, doubled the number of pills, so it was worth it. This product will be part of our daily health routine. I have decided that I like this product enough to buy another bottle and send it to my niece for her guinea pig.

My guinea pigs used to get the drops in their water but my vet said this is much healthier for them and won't cause bacteria to grow in the water. They all love them and look forward to them every day. I also trust this company to make a great product.

As many others had reported, my guinea pig ignored the tablet when I placed it on his cage. What I did was that I decided to give him the tablet around a certain time a day each day as to make it a routine, I took him out of his cage and pet him a little, when he was conftable enought I would hand feed him the tablet. At first it took a while for him to eat it, but after a little less than 2 weeks he happily eats it, I still have to hand feed it to him but I really don't mind doing that.

My guinea pig took a couple of days before he tried it,but after that he acted as if it was a treat. I guess every guinea pig is different but it is a good way to give them the vitamin c that they need.

I am the new owner of a young guinea pig, who I named Bridget. Before getting her, I did a good bit of research on the internet on how to properly care for a piggie to make sure I provided her with the best life possible. I had her cage all set up and had already purchased everything I thought I would need before bringing her home, including these vitamin C tablets. She was very skittish for the first few days. She wouldn't eat anything except for a little bit of timothy hay and Oxbow pellets. After giving her some time, though, she finally came around and started eating her vitamins. I break them in half, as a whole one at 50mg is way more vitamin C than most sources say a healthy guinea pig should have daily. Bridget loves them! In the mornings, I clean out her cage and offer her half a tablet, and she now takes them right out of my hand and gobbles them up! Great Job Oxbow!
