5.0 out of 5 stars Full CD of Heavenly Voices / Ethereal Music, June 3, 2005
By
This review is from: Oxeia (Audio CD)
There was a slight change in the lineup of Germany's LICTD prior to Oxeia, Maik (keyboards) and Susan (vocals) were still around, but Ralf D. and Sven both left the band. This shows in Oxeia, as the previous two albums: Teignmouth and Mental Traveller, both represented a blend of Susan's female vocals and Ralf's male vocals. If you are a fan of Susan's vocals, you'll be treated to an entire album of them with Oxeia. While this is my least favorite of the first three LICTD albums, my primary complaint with this album is its short length - 40 minutes total!

The following songs make it to many of my playlists: "Oxeia", "Orlando", the moody and dark "To Be At the Point of Death", "In Silence and Tears", the upbeat "Kaba Gajba", "The City in the Sea", and finally my favorite from this album, the dance ready "Second Life".

I honestly feel that the first three LICTD albums will appeal to most music lovers. The next two full length LICTD CDs (which can be found online) represent the return of Sven and the addition of new male vocalist, Ralf J. Though these first three albums are often compared with Dead Can Dance, I've always felt that this comparison is more appropriate for LICTD's next two albums which have a greater world music feel. What makes Oxeia and the first two albums unique is that they were instrumental in Germany in promoting an interest in the Heavenly Voices music genre (think classical inspired romantic music). At times, the female fronted vocals of Oxeia remind me of the music of bands like Qntal (Germany) or Sophya (Israel / Netherlands).

4.0 out of 5 stars Celtic influenced gothic-type music, May 24, 2005
This review is from: Oxeia (Audio CD)
If you like Celtic influenced gothic-type music, you will enjoy this album. To me, it is kind of like `Dead can dance' meets `Delirium'. The first 2/3 of the album is very whimsical, soft, and light with a slight cast of melancholy and sadness. Then the last four songs take on a totally different tone. They are harder, more gothic influence. Overall it's a really great album with great vocalists.

4.0 out of 5 stars DCD Lovers take note: A good Album, March 21, 1999

Nice Vocals. A great etheral sound. Well written melodies - modern music with an almost classical/renissance influence. If you like Dead can Dance, you'll like this album
