5.0 out of 5 stars Everything you ever wanted, November 22, 2011
This review is from: The Oxford American 2003 Southern Music CD No. 6 (Audio CD)
This is the most amazing complication of blues, bluegrass, a hint of jazz, and literally anything you could ever want. You DO NOT NEED to be into any of the aforementioned genres to like these songs-they're classics in terms of song and artist selection. Oxford, you've done it again. Thank you for your samplers. Seriously.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Collection of Southern Music, May 16, 2011
This review is from: The Oxford American 2003 Southern Music CD No. 6 (Audio CD)
Whether you love bluegrass, rockabilly, blues, country, jazz or some fusion that defies labels, if you love the music of the American South, this is a great collection to listen to. There are several examples of the genres that made this area famous although none are the "hits" you would expect to hear on a top 40 station. These are the songs of context, the records that long-lived Southerners may know but not necessarily share with strangers. By all means, focus on the cuts that match your favorite genres, but don't neglect the others. One of the joys of the South is that it isn't limited to a few stereotypes but is a collection of complex, layered lives. This diversity is reflected in the collection along with the common love of music and strong identity. A diverse society with a strong sense of self and music: how else would you define the South?
