The Oxford-Duden Pictorial Spanish and English Dictionary is a must for any person who conducts business and personal events in both English and Spanish. As a manger in construction, I have found the listings for heavy, commercial and residental construction VERY helpful. Due to the detailed drawings, it is extremely easy to find not only the name of a specific item, but also the components of that item. It has even helped me find the correct word for objects in my native language!

I would be willing to pay more for the same book with a sturdier cover and binding. This book is going to get a lot of use! In addition to my book on 501 Spanish Verbs, I consider this pictorial dictionary worth it's weight in gold.

I found this book to be an excellent resource to help me understand and explain many different technical terms used in engineering, construction, trades, crafts, art, and agricultural. The numerous number illustrations have helped me explain these technical terms to nontechnical persons. I have had difficulty keeping this book in my hands. Everytime, I get a copy, one of my friends will buy it off of me before I get a chance to mark in it! I higly recommend this dictionary to anyone who needs a good dictionary of technical terms.

A great noun builder for intermediate to advanced students of Spanish (or Spanish-speaking students of English), this book will help you attain a degree of precision in your vocabulary that would be difficult to achieve any other way without a substantial investment of time. The dictionary is arranged by subject areas varying from the highly technical (e.g. precision instrument parts) to the everyday (e.g. tableware). About one-fourth of the volume is taken up by the index which is eminently helpful if you want to quickly find the translation of a particular word without having to wade through the many subject areas. The book identifies occasional word differences between Castillian Spanish and other idioms (e.g. Mexican Spanish) as well as between British and American English. Well-suited for browsing (a rare quality for a dictionary) and very different from most other language learning resources, consider this book a must-have for the serious language student or professional working abroad.

I am a fanatic for visual dictionaries or pictorials. The Oxford-Duden Pictorial Spanish and English Dictionary is very good if you don't mind to spend 10-15 seconds in finding the meanings in the list related with the number. I rather have a line or arrow pointing the translation. Despite of that it is an excellent resource, and has tons of translation with different meanings.

Soy un fanático de los diccionarios visuales. Este diccionario es muy bueno si a alguien no le importa invertir 10-15 segundos buscando la relación del el numero con la palabra. Yo prefiero aquellos diccionarios visuales que tienen una línea señalando la palabra junto al gráfico. Aun así es un recurso excelente que tiene toneladas de traducciones en diferentes modismos y significados.

This dictionary was recommended by an instructor in my Spanish/English interpreter program. I have been a Spanish teacher for years and have used the basic Oxford picture dictionaries with my high school students, but was not aware there was a book of this level available. It is a fabulous resource for vocabulary on so many topics! It is easy to use, extremely well-organized and just amazing to see how many words there can be in categories I never even thought of (such as factory machinery.) I'm learning words for things I never knew in English either!

A clear, easy to use pictorial dictionary that comes in handily for anyone needing to connect the "verbal" with the "visual" ... My only wish would be for LARGER PICTURES WITH A BIT MORE DETAIL ... perhaps a larger, coffee-table size might be in the works?

This is an amazingly detailed book. I used it when I lived in Spain, and especially when writing papers in college. No other book is this comprehensive. My only complaint is that it is somewhat dated; example: it refers to those of African descent as 'negro' in English. I would love to see an updated version of this book since the original publishing date was in the 1970's. That being said, the technical jargon does not change very much over the years, a screwdriver is still called a screwdriver. I cannot imagine the amount of work that went into this, nor the amount of work needed to modernize translations. It is already fabulous, but would be even more amazing if they updated it!

I recommend this book for any translator but especially for the technical translator out there that wrestles everyday with machinery terms and sometimes wants to see where the part he is talking about is in the machine.

This may be a great dictionary, but be warned that there are several explicit pictures in it. Male and female genitalia is included, along with an image of a "nightclub" that has a topless stripper wearing a g-string, pole dancing with drunk patrons watching ("el striptease"), and a "discotheque" that has similarly clad people. I bought this for my eight year-old and suffice it to say, it's not appropriate.

This is an incredible reference book that shows so many themes that its encyclopedic.. science, technolgy, crafts, trades, wheather,etc.
