I have been a reader in the field of Byzantine History for a long time now. As such, I have found that my Oxford Dictionary Of Byzantium was starting to show its age. This Handbook looked like a very good chance to fill in some blanks, and it does so quite well. The entries in this work are more in depth and are written by scholars working in those areas. This makes it both helpful as a reference and useful for a source for reading up on matters or approaches new to me. If one is really looking for a more current reference in the field, this is a text to consider.
