Here is a truly comprehensive pocket reference for GPs, GPs in training and medical students in general practice posts. A unique handbook that covers the complete curriculum for general practice as well as including numerous items which can only be learnt in practice. It covers a whole range of topics, tried and tested, old and new to aid and abet the GP in daily working life.
Alongside guidelines for evidence-based clinical practice, the book gives details of other important but time-consuming practical issues such as how to deal with confidentiality and consent, compliance, the procedures for complaints, things to include in referral letters and essentials to put in the doctor's bag... A special easy accessible section covers what to do in emergencies with algorithms for adult and paediatric advanced life support.
Written by GPs for GPs in the real world the Oxford Handbook of General Practice also raises pertinent issues such as dealing with stress and what it means to enter this fascinating profession. Details of useful web sites and contact address along with an A-Z important organizations are included to ensure this book forms a truly vital part of the GPs armory.

Editorial Reviews

Review

An outstanding and useful text, de rigeur for young registrars. British Journal of General Practice A very useful rapid reference tool. Update A truly outstanding book... a breathtaking tour of general practice is provided... Despite the book's portability it will provide the average GP and GP registrar with fantastic and up to date advice on how to manage most standard front line clinical problems... the price is very competitive making it outstanding value for money. I suspect this will become a standard text for GP registrars and very popular amongst practising GPs. For a first edition, this is an outstanding offering and I am sure that there will be a long line of future edition. Dr Harry Brown

This review is from: Oxford Handbook of General Practice (Oxford Handbooks) (Paperback)
Good all round view of family practice. The initial section is very geared up to the UK but most of the book covers clinical topics relevant anywhere in the world.

As Prof Kurt (eminent Brazilian physician) once said: one needs a good book to make sure he isn't missing anything fundamental.
well, this is just such book. In my family practice, whenever i see a patient with something a bit different from the daily business, I turn to this very practicle and tested book.
