Book Description

Horrible Histories
It's history with the nasty bits left in. Want to know: What a liripoop is? Which potty professor liked to walk like a dinosaur? What's buried beneath the botanical gardens? Plot your path to the past with the frightful fold-out map of the city - take a punt past corpse-ridden Christchurch and go skeleon-spotting at the cruel and crumbling castle.

5.0 out of 5 stars The City of Dreaming Spires - The City of Bleeding Fires, January 23, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Terry Deary has done it again. Another great guide to plan a gruesome vacation to Oxford, nicknamed "the City of Dreaming Spires."

While it may seem like a beautiful, antique city inhabited by educated teachers, brilliant scholars, and gorgeous architecture, Oxford's violent history has more than it's fair share of blood. You'll gfind out all about Oxford's numerous wars among it's people. Saxons vs. Vikings, Medieval Citizen vs. Medieval Citizen, Tudor Catholics vs. Tudor Protestants, Students vs. Teachers, Students vs. Citizens, Students vs. Students, it's all here! This book will teach kids about the bloodier parts of teis Englis college-city's history while keeping it funn and entertaining. They'll even go over gruesome tudor bear baitings, and the burning of Protestants. As Deary himself says, "The City of Dreaming Spires? More like the City of Bleeding Fires."
