Another good Kate Ivory story,
By kashew (Zurich Switzerland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Oxford Menace (Hardcover)
Let me start by saying that one should start at the beginning of the series, as Kate's life story is as important and interesting as solving the mystery. I found the first just okay, but with the second in the series I became hooked.
Oxford, with the university, provides Kate with ample ways to get involved in crime solving. I love her curiosity - and fashion sense! The subject of animal research is certainly emotionally charged enough to lead to murder, but, as usual, it is the characters that make the story. Kate's tensions with her partner Jon (should she settle into house/baby/suburbs), her support of her chaotic friend Emma (all those children, her awful fashion sense and friends in crises) and her worry about her rather bohemian mother (off from Oxford rather mysteriously) are what I find most interesting. Of course, in the end Kate solves the mystery .. not without risk to herself. |
