About the Author

Jayme Adelson-Goldstein is an ESL teacher-trainer and curriculum consultant. She is the series director of Step Forward, series editor of Read and Reflect, author of Listen First, and the co-author of numerous ESL texts, including The Oxford Picture Dictionary. Great concept and very thorough in terms of vocab, but without diacritical marks for vowels it's impossible for a beginner to know how to pronounce the Farsi words. This is an incredibly stupid oversight.

Useless if you are trying to learn Farsi. Beautifully illustrated. I think the company sells a audio companion, I will check into that. This book was designed for Farsi speaking students learning English I believe. I still give 3 stars because I think is nice to have.

The OPD shines in providing practical vocabulary in American English with pictorial support for all kinds of everyday needs. The situation-based color-coded sections are easy to locate, the labeling is clear, and there are two word indexes in the back of the book, one in English and one in the second language (for the bilingual editions). I recommend the OPD to all my students.
