Book Description

With the publication of this book psychotherapy finally arrives at the mainstream of mental health practice. This volume is an essential companion for every practicing psychiatrist, clinical counselor, mental health nurse, psychotherapist, and mental health practitioner. It is integrative in spirit, with chapters written by an international panel of experts who combine theory and research with practical treatment guidelines and illustrative case examples to produce and invaluable book. Part One gives a comprehensive account of all the major psychotherapeutic approaches. Parts Two and Three systematically describe psychotherapeutic approaches to the major psychiatric disorders and personality disorders. Many chapters are multi-authored and describe the psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral and other approaches for treating these illnesses. Part Four examines applications and modifications of psychotherapists including ethics, legal issues, and psychotherapy and neuroscience. The first of its kind, this is a 'must have' volume for all trainee and practicing psychological therapists, whatever their background - psychiatry, psychology, social work, and nursing.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"The practitioner would have a hard time finding anything comparable to the breadth and depth of this excellent text. The quality of references makes the book worthwhile for anyone interested in knowing more about current work in improving psychotherapy."--Doody's

"This is a major work...There is no other textbook on psychotherapy like this available. This is clearly a book that belongs to the library of all those interested in and practicing psychotherapy, all trainees, and all training programs...It seems that my preconceived idea was correct-this is a major publishing event. So, "buy" is the final recommendation."--Annals of Clinical Psychiatry

"...this is a quintessential textbook. It looks like, feels like, and reads like a clinical textbook: comprehensive, thorough, compact, and prescriptive. It could sit on a shelf with medical textbooks and not seem out of place...The heft of the book certainly conveys a seriousness and sense of scientific rigor."--PsycCritiques

"The reader is invited to read about all the psychotherapies available for different conditions, and then form their own opinion... As with psychotherapy itself, some parts of the Oxford Textbook of Psychotherapy resonate with one's personal persuasion. It is essential reading for all who wish to hone their own Fredian art of listening."--British Journal of Psychology

The font size is a joke!? It's the smallest print letter I've ever seen! What's the point of editing an interesting and complete book, if the reader's gonna end up with a headache after 5 minutes of reading? If I had known, I'd definitely wouldn't have bought it.
