Oxo Candela Glow, Set of 8

We bought these Oxo Candela Glow sets for our kids' rooms.

The concept is great: a soft light that is easy to move around a room, stays lit all night, and is rechargeable saving you $ on batteries. We loved these at first exactly for those reasons but quickly became disappointed in the product.

First the pros:
- Rechargable batteries *should* make it cost effective in the long run
- Soft warm yellow glow that illuminates a small area very similar to a candle
- Does not heat up
- The company provides excellent customer support

Cons:
- The rechargable batteries do not hold a charge for very long. 50% of the batteries in our products held a charge for about 2 hours after about 1 months worth of use only at night. We followed the product instructions to the letter.
- Replacement batteries are apparently failing now as well after about 2 months worth of use since about 75% of the products don't hold a charge for more than 2 hours now.

We contacted the makers of Oxo Candela Glow Lights who were very polite and sent us replacement batteries at no cost and with no argument after the first battery failures. While I really appreciate good customer service it just can't make up for a poor product because sadly within another couple months we have more lights not holding a charge for very long. I may call the manufacturer again for replacement batteries but its aggravating to have to do it and I doubt they will send us replacement batteries indefinitely.

I would not recommend this product.

I had two sets of these from Vessel and LOVED them, but when I recently 'upgraded' to the newer model due to problems with one set, I found that the color of the light is terrible! Kind of like a bad greenish fluorescent - not what I want to light my dinner by. On top of this, the candle housing itself is noticeably cheaper and flimsier, and overall the candle is lighter-weight. I want my old ones! I wish I could get the old base fixed/replaced - that was evidently the issue with my original set. :(

Had two of these and both failed after a few months. I suspect that this is just a poorly designed unit. If you are handy with a soldering iron, open the charger base and you will see two small circuit boards, one for each half of the base. On each board, there is a small blue capacitor similar to the one on this link 4.7uF 250V Radial Mini Electrolytic Capacitor

Gently pry the circuit boards up and replace these two capacitors (it can be done without disconnecting the thin copper wires going to each of the candle holders). Put it back together and it should work (but for how long I have not determined yet).

I've had two of these sets over the past year. Both sets worked great for a few months and then the charger stopped working. Basically would heat up and the lamps would stay on in the charger but not work when taken off. With the first set I called Vessel/Oxo and they shipped out a replacement set, acknowledging there was a problem in the design. After the second set died, I've just given up. I think the charger/base may be hypersensitive to even subtle power surges. Stay away until the next generation is made!

We use these lights as nightlights in the baby's room. They have a decent light output and they're cool to the touch so I don't have to worry about it burning the baby if I'm holding the lights and the baby and they touch.

Also, I've only had it for a month or so, and I don't know if this is typical but they say the lights are good for 8 hours. Sometimes ours lasts for 12. Hopefully that will continue.

A really good purchase for us.

Another Candela charger I have had for less than a year just failed.

Save your money and find another option.

(I'm sorry to say this - because the Candelas are beautiful and I wish they lasted longer. But they're expensive and they die way too quickly! I've been struggling with these lights for years, getting replacement parts from Vessel. My husband is delighted that I have finally GIVEN UP!)

You'd think these would be work better and be of better quality as they are not cheap! However, I regret to report I have had problems with all three sets I have purchased. For me it's not IF these products will fail but WHEN. For what these cost and how long they last I can't recommend them.

This product is amazing. The lights are cool looking, very unique and they definitely turn heads with guests.... we use them on the dining room table, the coffee table, the night stand and all around the house. They are wonderful for parties and entertaining. They give off a beautiful subtle light, almost a glow similar to a candle. They last for almost 12 hours with a single charge- this is an awsome product. We origianlly saw them at a friends house on Cape Cod and we said we had to have those ourselves. We love ordering from Amazon.com so this was a natural choice for us. The price doesn't vary much from store to store that that wasn't a big issue. The lights are cool to the touch and charge by just placing then on the carry tray included. It's really amazing actually.
