Detailed, but aging,

Oxorn is Canadian and very thorough, but it is getting old. It still recommends episiotomy for assisted vaginal birth and fundal pressure for shoulder dystocia. MORE Ob is a better resource for these topics. I do appreciate that it covers all the "what ifs" and what to do if you had no resources like anaesthesia or surgery. It needs a 6th, updated edition.

Oxorn-Foote gives you a guide for all situations during labor and birth, as well as an understanding of normal and abnormal. A highly useful text for anyone going into maternity care.

The first 12 or so chapters are a great learning resource for pelvic anatomy and the ways the baby can be situated in the uterus before and throughout labor and birth. Once the book begins to address techniques and management, however, it is grossly outdated and shouldn't be used to learn current practice. Though it is interesting to see how management practices have changed since 1986.
