Not as effective as it used to be,
By Primrose Hill (UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Oxy Spot Treatment, Maximum, Vanishing, 0.65 Ounce (Pack of 3) (Health and Beauty)
I agree with one of the other reviewers that this product seems to have had a change in formulation.
I have used Oxy 10 for about 25 years. You'd think that becoming middle-aged would at least bring an end to breakouts as compensation for ushering in wrinkles and age spots... but no! If I don't use benzoyl peroxide nightly, I get a lot of pimples and my face is very oily. I have experimented with this over the years, tried other sorts of products, tried to use no products, etc. but I always have to return to 10% benzoyl peroxide. Even a 5% solution does nothing for me, although there are many claims that 5% is as effective as 10%. I didn't really notice a change in Oxy 10 until about a year ago. I started developing more pimples, they would last a bit longer, and the appearance of my skin in general got a little worse. You could put this worsening in my skin down to the natural aging process, but it felt a little weird to me, and was pretty sudden. So I tried many other products, face washes instead of creams, different brands, different strengths, etc. Many of those other products made my skin even worse, especially salycilic acid, which not only gave me massive cystic-like acne around my jawline which lasted weeks on end (never in my life have I had that before), but it also caused a lot of "milia" to develop on my forehead (lumps of collagen that are trapped deep under the skin, they take ages and ages to "grow out", and most of the time you can't get rid of them without having them cut out). Within 4 months, this new inferior formulation of Oxy 10 -- combined with the sudden discontinuation last spring of my trusty AHA lotion that I've also used for about 25 years, Neutrogena Healthy Skin Lotion (non-spf version because I am allergic to chemical sunscreens in the spf version), which always made my skin look fabulous and 10 years younger (I still have not found a good replacement for that lotion, even though I've looked at dozens and dozens of products)-- made my skin appear to have aged 5 years. It was almost like going from looking at the live Dorian Grey to looking at his portrait in the attic, chuckle (okay, not that bad!) Last fall, I tried the "sensitive" Oxy (5% benzoyl peroxide), and it was even worse than the 10%. My skin just got worse and worse. One of the items I tried and rejected last summer was Glytone (it's on the expensive side - about 18 dollars). It has a strange gritty texture that sort of hurt my skin when I applied it. You can actually see the little sand-like pieces on your skin and brush them off after the cream has dried. It's also pretty strong. I would get white swirls from the cream on my skin that stayed white instead of soaking in or turning translucent. So it wasn't ideal for me. However, after my last bout of trying Oxy 10 -- which I decided would be the last time (I threw my last tube away last week), I went back to using the Glytone and in 2 days, my skin had made a huge improvement. For now, I'll stick with the Glytone. However, I'd like to find something in a translucent gel, which doesn't have gritty particles in it.

Effective, but not really vanishing,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Oxy Spot Treatment, Maximum, Vanishing, 0.65 Ounce (Pack of 3) (Health and Beauty)
This is an effective product - works pretty much the same as any other 10% benzoyl peroxide formulation. It is not, however, very good when it comes to "vanishing" as stated in the product description. Using the appropriate amount will leave a visible white residue on your face. Not a problem if you use it at night before going to bed, but not suitable if you want to use it during the day.

best spot treatment,
This review is from: Oxy Spot Treatment, Maximum, Vanishing, 0.65 Ounce (Pack of 3) (Health and Beauty)
best spot treatment because it actually kills acne bacteria not just try to dry the acne so it works very well. takes away the acne in two days. but be careful for over drying of skin.have tried proactive spot treatment does not work as close to as well this works. probably the most powerful spot treatment available that i know of. you can try it at wal-mart for 4 dollars. if this dosent help take down your acne your out of luck. it also reduces swelling and redness fast.
