3.0 out of 5 stars fair for the price
not very explicit, extremely basic but ok as a reference for starting oxyacetylene welding (I got quite good at it at A&P school and just bought a rig for home use).

5.0 out of 5 stars A good book for the novice oxyacetylene welder, May 11, 1999
This review is from: Oxyacetylene Welding: Basic Fundamentals (Paperback)
If you don't know the first thing about welding, but want to learn, this is the book for you. The 100 page, well illustrated text discusses safety concerns, torches, metals, the operation of welding equipment, and the various techniques used to weld, braze, cut and solder steel, bronze, silver, and cast iron. The book's emphasis is on several ways to weld steel of different shapes and thicknesses with an oxyacetylene welding torch. Note that this book does NOT cover electric arc welding. The book appears to be designed to be used as a text for a high school vocational education welding class. The author assumes you know nothing, and even includes a chapter on using a ruler to measure metal. Each of the chapters has a few review questions at the end to "check your progress." Very helpful checklists covering such basic activities as lighting the torch and preparing the metal for welding are provided. It's a little scary to handle explosive gases, 6000 degree flames, and molten steel if you've never done it before. I knew nothing about welding when I got this book, but by using it as a guide, I can now confidently use a welding torch.
