Well, I hate to say this, but you all know the point of an oxygen absorber. You also know that once they do their absorbing, that's pretty much it. They ship with cute little hot pink tablets that turn blue when exposed to oxygen. This is obviously so that you know whether or not they are ruined, and if the seal you thought you had is broken. NEW ones should get to you in a very redshifted state, but mine are a pleasant but unfortunate target pattern of violet, lavender, and dull grey-pink. In other words, both entire packages of 50, (total 100) are shot, and that's they way they came out of the box. The shipping box was undamaged, no nicks in the plastic vacuum bag, they're just plain ruined. This is like buying camera film that's already been exposed. I have to assume that they're kind of old, and over time sitting on a shelf somewhere thev're leaked. Either that or the people who first put them into the vacuum bags did it too slowly. You have to work fast with those things. I'm kinda screwed on this batch. Rats.
Lesson learned: if you order these things, maybe put in a note for the seller to look at the exposure tablets and only ship you red ones. Otherwise you might as well toss an old sock in- it will absorb just as much oxygen as these things will.

I had the absorbers for a month before I got around to using them. All the jars I used them in sealed with no issues. I'm ordering more. Fast service and great product.

The product itself seems to work but the way its packaged is not user friendly for smaller batches. If they were individually wrapped it would be much better.

Please don't pay any attention to these reviews. Go on the net and read about how they really work. There are some misconceptions here.
When you get them, open the bag and immediately put them in a canning jar or a jar with a TIGHT sealable lid. If you have a Foodsaver, suck the air our of the jar. Quickly put the lid on and tighten. Take out only what you are using RIGHT THEN. Those things that come in shoes and pill bottles are not the same thing. A real O2 absorber is fantastic for food storage.

...but after calling supplier of these Oxygen Absorbers today...I learn that the shelf life of these little packets is good for 1 year after
sealed packet is opened,(or manufactured?) ALL must be used within 10-15 minutes afterwards, as they Immediately began using up oxygen, unless quickly 'resealed' in same bag or a mylar bag. Also read that 'zip lock bags won't get it' as far as protecting the shelf life of packets. Now, that tells me I'd better have an assembly line ready to pack absorbers immediately as they come in 100 count. Maybe I'm missing something? Will be using them in the future when dry canning vegetables this summer.

Keeps moisture from ruining your dried foods,

Oxygen absorbers are self-defined. They absorb oxygen. That's all they do, and that's all they need to do. During the season for many fresh fruits and vegetables, I buy organics at the farmers' markets in quantity and dehydrate them at home for use throughout the off-season. Occasionally, in the past, I have had some of my dehydrated foods spoil due to moisture finding its way into the (supposedly airtight) jars. Since water is two parts hydrogen and one part oxygen, moisture cannot form if either component is missing. Hence oxygen absorbers. I have not had a single failure since I began using them. They're not terribly exciting, but they are effective and I recommend them for anyone who dehydrates foods. Perhaps I oversimplified too much. For water to form in a previously dry area (read "dehydrated" as in water-removed), both hydrogen and oxygen are necessary. When the oxygen is taken out of the mix(as in: absorbed), it leaves only the hydrogen, which cannot turn itself into water. Hydrogen in and of itself is not harmful to food, and being a lighter-than-air gas, it rises until it finds enough oxygen molecules to form water. hw

I have purchased these absorbers before from other dealers and they came with a sensor tablet inside the bag so that you could tell if they were still good. This package did not have the tablet.

I had ordered fifty "300cc" sachets from another link, then I found this link for one hundred 100cc sachets, for about the same price.
The photos were identical for both the 300cc and 100cc products, so I ordered both. When I received them, they were in fact both nearly indistinguishable in size and marking (see my other review of the "300cc" sachets, where I posted a photo). I went to the OxyFree's website where they list the 100cc sachets in 100-count packages. The sealed package from THIS seller of the 100cc sachets included a tag which indicated the 504A SKU number referenced on OxyFree's website, along with a QC number. This seemed to be evidence of a genuine product/description. Furthermore, the sealing of the plastic bag was uniform all the way around. The sachets measured about 35x55mm (somewhat inconsistent with the 40x50mm dimensions on the website). On the other hand, the "300cc" sachets from the other vendor now start to look suspicious (see my other review for all of the reasons). While the sachets I bought from this link did not include the freshness-indicating tablet mentioned by another reviewer, it appears that the 100-count bags were probably sealed by OxyFree, and I have more confidence in them than the others I bought. I rated this product only 4 stars instead of 5 because I think the indicator tablet is a good idea, but it was absent. I don't have any actual test results to prove whether these work, so I'm going on faith. It at least appears that they are described and packaged properly. 3/16/2011.

My wife makes dried jerky treats for pets and packages them in 8 X 4 inch plastic bags. These oxygen absorbers worked great for keeping them fresh and mold free. I am ordering more.
