3.0 out of 5 stars Cute but size is not labeled correctly...
I purchased these socks for our newborn. After waiting weeks for them, they arrived labeled for 6-12 months. I just want everyone to know this in case they are buying for 0-6 months- they will be WAY too big.

Whether you speak spanish or not, you can enjoy this- however it is worth translating the words because of the depth of the lyrics.

4.0 out of 5 stars Forget reggaeton, this is Latin alternative at its finest!, October 24, 2006
This review is from: Oye (Dig) (Audio CD)
Colombian Latin alternative rockeros return to form with this outstanding album. The music is so good you don't even need to understand Spanish to get it. "Complemento," "Paces" and "Al Parque"are sure to appear in a future greatest hits compilation. These musical witch doctors have been concocting just the right amount of rock, Colombian folkloric music, Andean spiritual rhythms and Afro-South American beats for the perfect potion and they've never shared it with anyone (nor has any group been able to reverse engineer it). On "Oye" it's evident they still have the recipe carefully tucked away and the potion still has magical healing powers.

Though their creative trajectory has transformed them from punks to popstars to trip-hopsters (as captured on their appropriately titled and excellent greatest hits CD, "Evolucion/Evolution"), it's the first time they appear to be basking in nostalgia and taking a step back, which isn't necessarily a bad thing if you're the Aterciopelados. And it's especially not a bad thing when the album is reminiscent of their amazing 1997 release, "Pipa de la Paz." Though on this album, you won't catch former uber feminist and vocalist Andrea Echeverri who recently became a mom singing lyrics like: "I won't ruin my silhouette with a baby" as she did on "La Culpable" off the "Pipa" album.

The Latin alternative world can also exhale. Despite the lanky Echeverri and the mousy Hector Buitrago helping each other out on both of their recent solid solo efforts, the rumors ran rampant about an imminent break-up. Though Echeverri's Latin Grammy-nominated album of her same name had a commercial edge over Buitrago's "Connector," Buitrago demonstrated that he can take some calculated artistic risks and still pull off a successful avant-garde album.

To enjoy this album you don't need Spanish. You don't even need an open mind. All you need is good taste. Enjoy! --Mario I. Oña

5.0 out of 5 stars Aterciopelados' true return to form!, October 24, 2006

Yes, Andrea Echeverri and Hector Buitrago made mellow (but highly enjoyable) solo albums in the past year. Yes, it's been 5 years since the last Aterciopelados studio album....but wow, what a return to form!

The new album "Oye" will definitely appeal to fans who enjoyed the more rock-ish elements of albums like 'Pipa de la Paz.' I'm infatuated with the first single "Complemento", as well as the infectious song "Al Parque".

If you are a fan of Latin rock or world music, this is the "MUST-HAVE" Latin Alternative album of 2006! Forget Juanes or Shakira, this is real Colombian music.

5.0 out of 5 stars You better listen.., October 17, 2007

Enter Aterciopelados after a 5 year hiautus (although we heard the individual efforts from Andrea Echeverri and Hector Buitrago as solo artists with Andrea's eponymous album and Hector's "Conector") with a clear stomp of Latinamerican Music. "Oye" delivers a clear view of what Latino music should sound. Loud, with sense and no apologies. The lyrics of the songs are just clever and witty, Andrea clearly speaks her mind about money issues and materialism "Salgo de compras si estoy deprimida, si estoy muy gorda programo una cirugia". "Don dinero" shows humour and critic at the same time, but ballads as "Insoportable" and "Brisa" are heartwarming. "Oye" may not have the cosmopolitan sound of "Caribe Atomico" or the synths, loops and electronic sounds they used to step in a new era with "Gozo Poderoso", but is a clear statement of the duo about their experience as a powerful influence they have been the last ten years in latin rock. Forget other singers that claim to make latin music and making crossovers at the same time. Aterciopelados is the real deal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Giving 1 star to this album is so insensitive!, December 25, 2006
This review is from: Oye (Dig) (Audio CD)
I mean: Aterciopelados are still flying high in the Inspiration department; both musically & lyrically.
The standout for me is DON DINERO,especially if you know spanish you will get caught up in the playfulness of its lyrics.
PACES & AL PARQUE remind me of mid-90s AterciopeLados. While OYE MUJER & INSOPORTABLE sound very GOZO PODEROSO/PIPA DE LA PAZ...
Out of all the Colombian exports people know more about Shakira and Juanes, yet, there is something so uniquely soothing about Aterciopelados'music! They are extremely inspired, I wish they got more exposure( only last week I saw their video for the very lovely COMPLEMENTO on MTV Latin-America)...Aterciopelados are in creative heaven right now, check this album out immediately, dismiss the 1-star reviews.
One more thing: try to catch Andrea Echeverri Live: she transfigures herself on stage, you have to see it and then believe it, she seems like she comes straight from heaven when she performs...alright!

4.0 out of 5 stars A delightful assortment...., December 6, 2006

I'm not really sure what these negative 'reviews' are about....The folks who trashed "Oye" must be confused, or listening to something else...

This record is beautiful, exciting, fascinating, and thoroughly enjoyable. Since I first heard "Complemento" I haven't been able to stop playing it. The entire album is, in fact, getting top billing on my Ipod these days!

If you are looking for something new, fresh, interesting, and unique, I would definitely recommend this. Not all of the songs rise to the same heights, but enough do, and there are some real gems.

5.0 out of 5 stars El esperado regreso de Aterciopelados, November 6, 2006
This review is from: Oye (Dig) (Audio CD)
