I know my wife was looking for a kitchen scale so I decided to surprise her with this one, cuz from what she tells me, "little stuff" like this makes her happy. On the day it was suppose to arrive, I walked up to my door after a long days work, wondering how happy and surprised she would be, and hoping she would be nice to me like BEFORE we got married. I casually walked in with a smile on my face only to be welcomed home by my lovely wife and what I can only describe as a noise concoction of a chainsaw, jackhammer, and a wailing cat in heat all in one(anyone ever hear a cat in heat before?). Here's the highlight of that civil conversation:

" OMG WHY DID YOU BUY THIS, I JUST BOUGHT ONE TODAY! "
" Oh, I didn't know. Thought you'd like this one..."
" OMG I SPENT ALL THIS TIME RESEARCHING, AND I BOUGHT THE ONE I DID FOR A REASON !"
" Oh, well I researched it too. Lets check it out..."

I figured I didn't want to completely forfeit any dignity I had left so I chose to defy the odds and defend the scale I purchased against my wife . We kept it civilized as we both calmly opened up our respective scales and set them down next to each other on our dining room table to juxtapose and compare. Right off the bat, we both agreed mine looked better--mine was contemporary, sleek, thin, and sexy. The specs were nearly identical but the wifey's was some gargantuan amalgamation of cheap plastic and glass that she picked up at Bed Bath & Beyond. And not to mention that she paid almost double what I paid for my scale even with shipping. I thought it was a homerun , but she decides to pull a "looks aren't everything" card on me. So I reach in my pocket and pull out some change that I had. From what I know, Nickels are exactly 5 grams so I put one on both scales. So far so good as they both read 5 grams. I then put 3 Nickels on her scale but the scale read 16 grams. Sensing victory is near, I quickly put 3 on my scale. With a big smile on my face, I read out 15 grams. Not wanting sleep on the couch that night I quickly refrained from any victory dancing and humbly and respectfully asked her to return her scale, which she made me do...

In a head-to-head faceoff with another scale, The Ozeri Ultra Slim scale was the victor, and so far, its been perfect. As a scale, it is accurate, consistent, and easy to use and clean. I feel like this review has rambled on a little too long, but overall, its a great scale that works and looks fantastic!

Update: I now feel that this scale is too flaky for me to use for baking. It's auto-off'd in the middle of my adding ingredients one too many times, and today I tare'd it after adding something, walked to the sink to get water, returned a few seconds later, and it read "-178g" rather than 0. I re-tare'd it, but really this behavior just isn't ok. I'm going to replace it with a model that has an ac-adapter available, perhaps a My Weigh KD-7000, or an Escali 136DK, so that it doesn't auto-off in the middle of things. (I'm not wandering off and leaving it alone when it switches off like this - I'm actively adding ingredients, if perhaps not quickly enough for its liking if I'm trying to accurately measure e.g. 20 more grams of water.)

[original review follows]

I bought this scale to use for measuring ingredients for making bread. It's working really well for that - seems accurate (based on my measuring other things in my kitchen that I knew the weight of), and has plenty of room for me to be able to have a large mixing bowl on it and still be able to see the display. Here are things that I think could be a bit better:

(1) the auto-off after inactivity time is set a little too short for me - if I've added some ingredients and wander off to get more, it sometimes turns off before I get back, which is annoying if I'm not sure how much of an ingredient I've got in there - I need to be vigilant about making sure I know before I wander off. I can always weigh it again, but if I've tared it and not remembered how much I've tared, I could be losing information.

(2) I wish it registered new weights a little bit more quickly as I'm adding them (e.g. when I'm adding flour or water a little at a time to get up to a certain weight, I sometimes go over because it's a bit behind the amount I'm adding - I need to add ingredients pretty slowly to compensate. I don't know if this rate is standard for kitchen scales of this type, or if it reflects some sort of engineering compromise needed to keep the scale so thin.

(3) My old scale only had 2 units, grams and ounces, to cycle between. This scale has the same two, but duplicates them with "volume" measurements (cubic ounces, and mls). But it doesn't measure volume, just weight, so these measurements duplicate grams and ounces, and mean you have to press more times to cycle between the two, instead of just toggling between 2. Minor annoyance.

Nonetheless, this scale is more precise than my last one, and much smaller, with the consequence that I store it more conveniently located and use it more - overall I'm happy with this purchase and would recommend it to others. I also like the fact that it displays the battery status.

2.0 out of 5 stars poor quality, November 17, 2010

This scale is not particularly accurate or reliable. Weigh the same object more than once, you will not get the same measurement. Leave the object on the scale for a few seconds, the weight will change. If you want the accuracy of your measurements to approach 1 gram (or even within 5 grams), do not choose this scale.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Fast and Accurate!, February 7, 2010

I ordered this on thursday night and I received this Monday morning! The scale itself is also great as well. I'm taking a special cooking class with a friend and we all require kitchen scales. I chose this scale because it was so thin and it even fits in my purse. Its easy clean, and its weighing platform is large enough to cater to most of my needs yet small and thin enough to be portable. And not to mention it looks really sleek and modern. A little trick I've learned from cooking with kitchen scales is to use a nickle, which weighs exactly 5 grams to test the accuracy of the scale, and so far, this scale seems to be on par in terms of accuracy and consistency. Its been a perfect scale so far, and I greatly recommend this to everyone.

1.0 out of 5 stars useless in the kitchen, February 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Ozeri Ultra Thin Professional Digital Kitchen Food Scale, in Elegant Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
This kitchen scale is completely useless in the kitchen. It is very beautiful to look at but in order to power brightly lighted display with two thin wrist watch batteries the designers decided to time the display to turn OFF and re-zero the scale in very short time. If you need to open refrigerator to get your next cooking ingredient the scale will most likely turn OFF on you. Why didn't they just program the scale to turn OFF the display but still remember the weight? They also added one more even more stupid feature: If you have some thing on the scale heavier then couple of lb and your scale times out and turns OFF, when you turn it back ON, it will display error. You will have to lift what ever you have on the scale up and push the "Tare/ON button" to get the scale working again. After doing this exercise several times when preparing some food you will be ready to throw the scale to garbage. How can somebody allow to install "garbage electronics" in such a beautiful scale?

1.0 out of 5 stars Company creates FAKE REVIEWS for Products / Scale sucks, November 20, 2010
This review is from: Ozeri Ultra Thin Professional Digital Kitchen Food Scale, in Elegant Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
Check the 5-star review authors. 90% only have reviewed this product. KS is a joke.

PS: Their scale is terrible and is always way off. Very flimsy. Wouldn't buy again or any KS products.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very versatile!, July 4, 2010

This is a wonderful scale to use for measuring food. For example, with its capacity to hold heavy amounts, I am able to place a pottery bowl on it, tare it, measure my cereal out in grams or ounces, tare and switch to fluid ounces and pour my milk. No extra measuring cups! The display is very easy to read. I am very happy I bought this product and plan to take it with me whenever I go on vacation.

This is such a great scale! The best part is how thin and compact it is. I can slide it almost anywhere in my kitchen without much difficulty. But I always leave it out since it looks so great too! Overall, its a perfect scale that looks and works like a charm.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I'm not the world's best cook. And as for my baking skills...let's just say that Martha Stewart isn't sweating bullets. So anything that helps me turn out food that people will eat and that does not have to be registered with the police is a good thing. This scale helps.

Those of you who are more familiar with the science of bread-making know that you can't play around with the measurements. Sure you can go a little wild with the nutmeg or throw in that extra caraway seed and everything is fine. But mostly, when the recipe says 1 gram or 3.5 ounces, they don't mean "just eyeball it." My old kitchen scale wasn't much help...it was one of those spring-based things, where you balance the bowl on a little platform, where it immediately tips over and spills on the counter. If I did manage to balance the bowl on the platform, the little pointer would sort tremble back and forth between 1 and 1.5 oz, never really making up its mind. I can dither around and make a mess on the counter without help from the appliances, thank you.

The Ozeri Ultra Thin Professional Digital Kitchen Food Scale (in Elegant Stainless Steel) makes weighing ingredients easy. It has a very attractive design and, being only about 1" thick, takes up virtually no storage space. And it has a lot of cool features built in...like deducting the weight of your container. The weights are displayed on a screen, so you don't have to guess which line the little arrow is pointing to. And it looks so professional, anyone seeing it on my counter would never know that I use my smoke detector as a kitchen timer, or that the secret spice in my latkes is the piece of thumb I accidentally grated into the potatoes.

Some reviewers complain that the buttons are too big. To me, big buttons mean my big fingers don't punch more than one at one time, and my aging eyes can read them. Others find that the scale is a nano-fragment of a microgram off, according to their testing with their own sets of certified weights and measures. Okay. Next time I'm measuring uranium to fire up the reactor in the basement, I'll take this into consideration. But for making banana nut bread, I think we're pretty safe.

Sure I'm not a professional, I barely qualify as an amateur. But this scale looks good and works just fine. I'm turning out fewer loaf-shaped doorstops and considerably more bread that people aren't "saving for later." It should be a useful tool for anyone who enjoys covering the kitchen with a light dusting of flour every so often.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Scale at a Great Price, March 9, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Ozeri Ultra Thin Professional Digital Kitchen Food Scale, in Elegant Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
My wife and I visited several stores to look at kitchen food scales. We are trying to watch what we eat and sometimes an eyeball measurement is not even close to what the actual weight is. I did a search on Amazon for kitchen scales and there were several to choose from. I read the product specifications and product reviews to assist in making an educated guess on which one might suit our needs. At this point I was going to get my wife involved in the decision making process and then I thought that would drag out the process by at least a day or two. I decided to surprise her with the Ozeri Ultra Thin Scale. Placed my order (two day prime shipping) and presto two days later received my package. It was well packed an protected from shipping hazards, open and it took seconds to have it ready to use. I demonstrated to my wife and she was impresse by the tare weight and the ease of use. She was also impressed with the sleek low profie design, which makes the storage a breeze. Needless to say, my wife thinks I'm a shopping wizard. If you want to make a signifant other happy without buying flowers and candy or if you want a neat kitchen scale (whether your a professional or novice), then shop no further, the Ozeri is for you...elegant, sleek, easy to use slimline stainless steel scale. This scale worked so well, we showed off to our son and guess what... He wanted one too. Great scale at a great price.
