My first Ozzfest...and now it's on CD,
By
This review is from: Ozzfest 2002 Live Album (Audio CD)
First of all, everyone always complains about the sound quality of live albums but this one [is] actually one of the best I've heard in awhile. My biggest disappointment was with the video that they should included on the CD. Instead they made it so that you have to Log on and go to a website to download it (which takes forever if you're using 56k). The video itself is pretty [cool] but I wish they would have shown more band footage. The eerie part comes when Dave Williams (Drowning Pool) is intervued and he says that he "wants to be at Ozzfest for as long as he's alive". Dave died [shortly] after the event which i saw him at. Anyways, this is how the Album breaks down:1.Ozzy Osbourne - War Pigs: 5/5 Everyone knows that the Lord of Darkness always gives you your moneys worth. Classic Black Sabbath Tune and great pick for the album. Unfortunately Ozzy was with his wife during the show in Cleveland that I went to so I missed out bigtime. 2.System of a Down - Needles: 5/5 One of the hottest bands right now that alot of people didn't understand and/or appreciate until there 2nd album "Toxicity" was released. Great mosh pit song from a great live band. 3.Rob Zombie - More Human Than Human: 5/5 [On] the recording Rob sounds a bit out of breath, but if you've been to a Zombie concert you know why. It's because he's busy putting on a killer show. He's an absolute madman on stage, running around and stomping while trying to get the crowd fired up, which makes him one of the best in the business. This is not only a White Zombie classic but an all-time heavy metal classic. 4.P.O.D. - Outkast: 4/5 I'm not a huge fan of these guys but they put on a decent show. Good song. 5.Drowning Pool - Creeping Death: 100/5 This is by far the greatest track on the album. I saw this one first hand from the lawn and when Dave said they were going to play a Metallica cover I went nuts..and when they said it was going to be Creeping Death I just about died. This is the song that made my neck hurt so bad in the morning but it was so worth it. I had previously passed these guys up as just an MTV band with a couple catchy songs. These guys proved themselves in a live show as a true metal act...but the first time I saw these guys shall be my last...RIP Dave. 6.Adema - Freaking Out: 1/5 I truely hate this [group]. The lead singer has the [voice] of a 12 year old boy which peirced my ears at the concert. I wanted to listen to them but it was too painful...no sound check makes for a very poor live act. 7.Black Label Society - Berserkers: 5/5 High flying guitars and pounding riffs made Zakk Wylde a modern guitar god. Great show from a blazing metal act. 8.Down - Ghosts along the Mississippi: 5/5 Best band on the second stage. Very old school metal sound. I love it 9.Hatebreed - A Call for Blood: 4/5 Ok...I'm not really into the whole skinhead/hate/violence thing but I respect them as musicians and this song is everything that my parents hate..plus they know [how] to get a crowd really fired up. 10.Soil - Halo: Watch out for these guys. They could be huge with some more exposure. One of my favorite bands doing one of [their] best songs with Zakk Wylde as a guest on guitar. If you don't have their album "Scars" I would recommend that you get it..it's hot. 11.Flaw - Payback: 2/5 Not very impressive and [definitely] one of my least favorite acts on the mainstage. 12.3rd strike - All Lies: 3/5 ok song..nothing special though. 13.Pulse Ultra - Big Brother: 0/5 This is the worst band i've ever seen in my life..their bass player is a [terrible] guitar player. He is a lil twig who didn't even play more than one cord. The singer is a [whiney] lil baby (my daddy left me and I'm [gonna] cry about it), and the drummer is completey oblivious to the fact that he's in a crappy band. They think they are so [cool] that they have to wear black snowsuits during a 95 degree summer day. We (me, my friends and the entire crowd) booed them off stage. 14.Ill Nino - Liar: 4/5 These guys rock pretty hard..Awesome live performance. The guitar player gave me a pick and the bass player even gave me a bottle of water :) 15.Meshuggah - New Millenium Cyanide Christ: 4/5 Hey if you like Swedish death metal this is a treat. Not everyone liked them I'm a big fan of these guys and I hope they play next year. 16.Andrew W.K. - She is Beautiful: 4/5 ok..alot of people don't like this guy..and alot of people do..BUT this man feeds off of his fans. At Ozzfest he climbed into [the] crowd and joined the pit then when I saw him at Warped Tour he pulled [every] single crowd-surfer up on stage until their were about 30 people going nuts on the stage. I will be the first to admit that he's [definitely] not the greatest musician in the world but he's an incredable entertainer. I've met him a couple times and he's a really great guy. This man is rock and roll in it's purest form. The Album features a duet with Kelly Osbourne which is great. This Album could have been better..I would have liked to see Otep (amazing band, one of my favorites), Lost Prophets, and Neuotica on here. but "you can't always get what you want". Overall it's a good buy..I'll be going again next year. *Keep those horns pointing up*

An excellent reminder of your Ozzfest experience,

2002 was my second Ozzfest experience. I have a blast every year, but what was awesome that year was they recorded the tracks for the live album the day I was in Mansfield, MA. I would've bought the CD anyway, because it helps remind you of your own experiences at Ozzfest. Hearing all the great live tracks, the fans, and the awesome bands help someone remember when they were in the thick of a pit with their ear drums being pounded and the bass driving into your stomach. My only complaint is that one of my favorite bands that year, Otep (which everyone should check out because the woman's voice is frighteningly loud), isn't on the album. But Soil's "Halo" with the greatest guitarist in the world, Zakk Wylde, backing them up is one of the best tracks. Not all the tracks are great, but neither is the set list at any Ozzfest. You'll always have bands you like, and a few you don't. If you like metal, and especially if you've been to Ozzfest, pick this CD up. Also check out Otep and the Ozzfest 2001 CD.

A good Ozzfest, not the best though,

This cd is a good cd, but some of the other bands that were at Ozzfest should've been on this album instead of some others (cough, Pulse Ultra, Flaw, Adema) Not that these bands are bad, wait, no, they are bad. The others that should've been on this to make it better would be Switched, Neurotica, Otep, and Seether. I can't believe how amazingly great Ozzfest was this year, but last year's just had me more into it as far as the album. The better songs on this one are War Pigs cuz Ozzy's the man, Needles by S.O.A.D. cuz they just rock, and the Metallica cover of Creeping Death is just sick, um, B.L.S. always knows how to put on a show, and Down is just the same. Hmmm, Soil's track was great, Zakk Wylde blows me away on this song (of course, he does on every song he plays), and, uhh, 3rd Strike is another you should watch out for, their album Lost Angel is sweet. And last but not least, Meshuggah, these swedish guys can put on a show like no other. So all in all, this is one to get and blast up so you can party!!! It's like a private Ozzfest right in your house. - The Joe

Ozzfest 2002 is the best metal cd to date. With great bands shuch as: System of A Down; Rob Zombie; Black Label Society; and many more, you can't go wrong. This was my first experience to Ozzfest and since then I have bought every other one, but none as good as this. If you are a fan of Hard Rock or Metal, then you have to get this cd!

I bought this along with Mudvaynes 5.0. I was largely dissapointed. Not so much a metal cd, but random songs no one really enjoys.

The worst Ozzfest ever!,

Even with the lacking of such terrible bands a Linkin Park, it makes up with such trash as P.O.D. and 3rd Strike. Songs by Down, Meshuggah, and Hatebreed keep it from getting 1 star.

Awesome Live Album. I mean, 16 of the world's best bands. My 3 favourites are 1. Drowning Pool - Creeping Death, 2. Rob Zombie -More Human Than Human and 3. Ill Nino - Liar 1. Ozzy Osbourne - War Pigs: Great song. Great guitar, the fans go insane in the background and it's OZZY OSBOURNE. 5/5 2. System Of A Down - Needles: A pretty decent song, but not as good as the studio version though, but a good song though. 4/5 3. Rob Zombie - More Human Than Human: Finally, the Zombie gets on the Main Stage, deservingly so. And they did a great White Zombie song as well. 5/5 4. P.O.D. - Outkast: Good song, this song never did get any respect on the studio version, but it's great live. 4/5 5. Drowning Pool - Creeping Death: My favourite song right now, A Metallica cover (I'm not sure if Metallica is pleased or not. Hehehehehehehehe)that was really good, but DP's version I think is better. Just simply great. 5/5 6. Adema - Freaking Out: A decent song, but not much impressive though. 2/5 7. Zakk Wylde's Black Label Society - Berserkers: Another great song, much like Ozzy's War Pigs, it's simply an awesome song. 5/5 8. Down - Ghosts Along The Mississippi: As far as this song goes, this band has got the best singer: Phillip Anselmo. You add members of Pantera, EYEHATEGOD and Crowbar together and you make Down. This song is the best Down song. 5/5 9. Hatebreed - A Call For Blood: Not so imprssive. 2/5 10. Soil with Zakk Wylde - Halo: Again, it's not so good. It only gets a 3 because Zakk Wylde is in it. 3/5 11. Flaw - Payback: Pretty decent. 3.5/5 12. 3rd Strike - All Lies: I'd say, it's not that good. 2/5 13. Pulse-Ultra - Big Brother: Do you think that at the second stage the songs get worse as it goes on, still pleasing though. 3/5 14. Ill Nino - Liar: This song, along with Down, are the only two best songs on the second stage. 5/5 15. Meshuggah - New Millenium Cyanide Christ: Another song that's worth listening to. 4.5/5 16. Andrew W.K. with Kelly Osbourne - She Is Beautiful: Pretty good. Unfortunately, Kelly's appearance docked 2 points. Sorry Kell. 3/5 My thoughts, and I'm keeping them. I wonder what Ozzfest 2003 is gonna be like. I know one thing..... LINKIN PARK'S COMING BACK!

Okay let me get started by saying this is a decent CD. Some of the bands on here are good but there shold have been some different bands on here. Here's how I rate the songs:1.Ozzy's War Pigs 5/5-This song would be better if he actually sang but I'll give him a 5 cause' he's Ozzy. 2.System's Needles 5/5-Really good song from a great band. It's a little different from the album version. 3.Zombie's More Human than Human 4/5- Nothing special. 4.P.O.D.'s Outkast 2/5-I was really disapointed when I heard this song. I like P.O.D. but this song is just bad. 5.Drowning Pool's(actually Mettalica's) Creeping Death 4/5-Okay. 6.Adema's Freaking Out 1/5-Not that different from all those other bands out there like Sum 41 and Blink 182 just a pinch heavier. Not very good. 7.Black Label's Berserkers 5/5-I don't really like it but he's a good guitarist. 8.Down's Ghosts Along the Mississippi 5/5-Really good, kinda old school metal. 9.Hatebreed's A Call For Blood 0/5-I hate this song. 10.Soil/Zakk Wylde's Halo 4/5-Nothing to brag about here. 11.Flaw's Payback 1/5-Oh, sorry isen't this Adema. 12.3rd Strike's All Lies 3/5-Again another okay song. 13.Pulse Ultra's Big Brother 1/5-Is this Adema or Flaw? 14.Ill Nino's Liar 5/5-My favorite on the CD. It's pretty heavy but it's good. 15.Meshuggah's N.M.C.C. 4/5-This is a really heavy band,an aquired taste. 16.Andrew W.K./Kelly Osbourne's She is Beautiful 4/5-It's not really good, more of a tap your foot song. This CD is pretty good even though some of the bands aren't very good the good ones make up for it. |
