Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

The real reason to own this two-disc set is not to get Ozzy's greatest hits, but to get the "basement" recordings of Black Sabbath doing "Black Sabbath," "War Pigs," "Fairies Wear Boots" and "Behind the Wall of Sleep," as well as a hilarious interview with the Ozzman himself from 1988 (e.g. "I didn't think [Sabbath] were that good a band. We were all f--- up on drugs and booze all the time.) If you're an Ozzy fan, you'll definitely have everything else on this--from "Goodbye to Romance" with Randy Rhoads to his last single with Zakk Wylde, "I Just Want You." There is one unreleased track from the Ozzmosis session, "Back on Earth," but it's cheesy and unremarkable. --Adem Tepedelen --This text refers to an alternate Audio CD edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Album for people new to Ozzy, July 6, 2001

This review is from: The Ozzman Cometh (Audio CD)
I first imagined that Ozzy was just another really strange death metal artist with no skill or talent. One of my friends played me the tape of "The Ozzman Cometh" one day and boy was I wrong! While the first two songs did put me off, i was absolutely surprised with the amount of greatness Ozzy has. I eventually borrowed the tape from him and haven't given it back since. I later purchased the CD.

Although it doesn't appeal much to a long-time Ozzy fan, this stuff is great for anyone who's new to the world of Ozzy Osbourne such as myself.

Only thing disappointing about this album are perhaps the first two songs that are probably only good to listen to if you got a decent set of stereos with the volume cranked up loud.

After that, the real music kicks in with a soft tune, "Goodbye to Romance", followed by one of my personal favorites, "Crazy Train". All of the songs have really awesome riffs. Inside the booklet, Ozzy mentions why he picked these songs for this album. One sad thing is that "No More Tears" has been condensed to last only 5 minutes. Why not just keep it to the original 7 minutes?!?!?

The only thing i'm a bit disappointed about is the second cd that comes with this. The two extra songs were just as bad as the first two on the first cd. And the interview wasn't really that great since all Ozzy did in it was yell and cuss everytime. Ozzy could have at least added some more hit singles into that second CD.

So, without those old demo songs, i'd say this is a pretty strong album. I recommend it for new fans to Ozzy Osbourne.

5.0 out of 5 stars quality Ozzy, October 22, 2006

This review is from: The Ozzman Cometh (Audio CD)
I originally wanted this CD because I was a HUGE Black Sabbath fan 6 years ago and the demo versions of the songs "Black Sabbath" and "War Pigs" really interested me. In fact, today I STILL dig the 4-track equipment used to create those songs. They sound muddy, but wonderful and spooky. Great trick or treat music! Just so you know, the quality of those two songs aren't anywhere near the quality of the versions released on their debut and Paranoid albums. If you enjoy Black Sabbath to an extreme level, you'll find yourself very interested in them, though. In a way, the demo version of "Black Sabbath" is better than the normal version we've heard a thousand times.

However, as the years went by I began to love Ozzy's solo career just as much. Many of his big hits are included here, but that doesn't really matter because Ozzy had a pretty spectacular solo career and just about ANY of his songs are good hard rock/heavy metal music, whether they were big hits or not. Ok, except for the ballads. But hey, I've always liked Ozzy ballads. The one here is really good, too.

With this disc you get a nice collection of songs. I think you'll find many of these songs continue to be enjoyable for many years.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good compilation from Ozzy Osbourne, May 15, 2000
This review is from: The Ozzman Cometh (Audio CD)
Ozzy Osbourne, even at his age, is still one of the most controversial rock acts ever. "Ozzman Cometh" has takes a greatest hits approach to Osbourne but with the songs it misses comes excess. I found the two basement tape tracks from Black Sabbath rather unnecessary due to the fact that the sound quality is unlistenable and the songs aren't even performed that well. The album really gets started at track 3 and from then on, it is classic Ozzy. It is really great to have songs like "Crazy Train", "Shot in the Dark", and "I Just Want You" on the same disc. But sadly I fell where the first two tracks are, there should be more songs like "Suicide Solution" and "Flying High Again". But all in all this album is very good. I really liked the new track "Back on Earth" as well. If your a casual Ozzy fan, this CD should suffice along with "Tribute".
