4.0 out of 5 stars Has some good footage
I really like alot of the bands featured in this DVD. Would have liked to have seen more bands from past ozzfests but this is about the 10th year. So as far as thats concerned it's a good one.

The Good
On the DVD menu screen you get two menu options. You can watch just the live performances that include such up-and-coming acts as Gizmachi, It Dies Today, A Dozen Furies, Trivium, Soilwork, The Haunted, HIM, and Wicked Wisdom and brand names such as Anthrax, Rob Zombie, Velvet Revolver, and Black Sabbath. The other option is to watch said performances with added documentary footage. I highly recommend watching the latter. In addition to some great performances (better in 5.1), you get insight on the past and present of how Ozzfest began and continues to operate. The interviews included stories from the bands, staff, fans, and the Osbournes of course.

After watching the performances, you can pretty much pick out the bands that played the second stage, and which one's were on the main stage. The second stage acts are more raw, furious, and heavy, whereas the main stage acts are more refined and on top of their game. Bonuses include brief interviews with Ozzy, Jack, Slash, Zakk, and Wicked Wisdom. These interviews are most likely outtakes from their main program ones. Also a part of the bonus section is performances from Alterbridge, Mad Capsule Markets, and Bowling for Soup. If you don't have time to watch the DVD, you can take the included live CD to play in the car. It doesn't have all of the performances, but you won't miss the ones they took out.

The Bad
Who invited Wicked Wisdom and Bowling for Soup to Ozzfest? I doubt that this DVD is worth more than one or two spins in your DVD player. You can listen to the live performances on the CD, and interviews and the like are only worth one play anyway. Also, when you promote something as an `anniversary' feature, shouldn't it chronicle the complete history of the event, not just the last show? Oh yeah, I wonder if leaving Iron Maiden out of the disc was intentional (that's sarcasm people). They only carried the majority of the tour when Ozzy's voice went kaput. I was sadden to hear that Ozzy's performance was not the only bad one either, Rob Zombie was way off (not usual for him).

The Verdict
I think I made my points in the statements above. The performances are good, but only for one or two viewings. The documentary footage is informative, but it's not enough to draw me back to this DVD. One particular performance is conveniently missing, and most of the performers are not very well known. When I think of an anniversary collection, I think of the complete history, not just the current year.

3.0 out of 5 stars More about what is missing, but still a decent DVD, January 16, 2006

Yes, I know and agree with everyone that this could and should have been a better DVD in terms of performance footage. I'm not going to dwell on that at all though. The omissions are really not explainable, but that isn't the DVD. I'll focus on what actually is here.

The interviews are actually really entertaining. Some of the stories from Ozzfest past are great (footage would have been nice, but oh well). Hell...I crave more from some of the interviews. Ozzy, Sharon & Jack are inciteful about Ozzfest's history, but the stories from the other artists are what makes it really entertaining. And not for nothing, but there is too much interview footage from Slash and HIM, and even Anthrax, who really aren't a part of Ozzfest history.

The performances are hit and miss. The picture and actual production is top notch. There is no doubt about that. Particularly during Rob Zombie's performances...it is spot on. Just an FYI...Alter Bridge, Mad Capsule Markets & Bowling For Soup are not on the main program...only the bonus features (though they are on the CD where some of the bands on the DVD are not). HIM & Anthrax, despite never having played a US Ozzfest, are part of the main feature (a whole chapter is devoted to HIM...that was frustrating). The UK footage is decent, but the Camden footage is a little bit more indicative of what an Ozzfest is about. The Haunted, Soilwork, and Zombie are the best of the bunch from Camden (It Dies Today sounds awful, A Dozen Furies look tired, Gizmachi gets cut midway, and Wicked Wisdom shows why they got a negative reaction). The UK footage is actually decent...it doesn't have the "Ozzfest feel", but the footage is really solid.

In terms of production quality and such, this is excellent. In terms of content, it is hit and miss. There are a few great moments, and a few not so great moments. It could have been so much superior than it is, but its worth at least one look.

I went to Ozzfest this year and it was incredible... however, this DVD is not even a shadow of what Ozzfest really was. A LOT of the bands that made it incredible are missing. First of all, there's no Iron Maiden (but i knew they would leave it out). There's no In Flames, no Shadows Fall, no Arch Enemy. Even though Anthrax and HIM are awesome bands, they were not part of the tour. I love Black Sabbath, but it would've been great if they included other songs instead of the same tired War Pigs, Paranoid and Iron Man. So many songs to pick from to put these.
And please, Bowling For Soup??? The Mad Capsule Markets??? Alter Bridge??? WTF??? What the hell is that??? So many GREAT bands on the tour, to fill this DVD with this crap! No thanx!
At least they included The Haunted, Trivium and Soilwork.

2.0 out of 5 stars Let's see........., October 16, 2005
This review is from: Ozzy Osbourne's Ozzfest 10th Anniversary (DVD)
This is how I've estimated the order to be. I really have my doubts if the Mighty Maiden will be on this dvd. That truely is a shame though because the crowd really seemed to blossom during Maiden's set in Camden.

UK Ozzfest (Donnington,UK)
Black Sabbath
Velvet Revolver
Anthrax

US Ozzfest (Camden,NJ)
Rob Zombie
Mudvayne
Shadowsfall
& some 2nd stage bands

I was at the Camden show front and center in the pit and didn't notice any cameras during Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, BLS and In Flames. Majority of second stage bands got some footage in and so did Muds and SF. If my thoughts are correct this will not be a history dvd. Just contain footage from this year and backstage perspective. Overall I don't expect much, it'll be a nice souvenir, thats all. Sharon knows people will buy it just for the name and that fact that somewhere down the line everyones been to an Ozzfest. If there are any disappointed Maiden fans I recommend their 'Death on the Road' dvd which will out the same date as this one.

1.0 out of 5 stars The Drugs Really Got To Ozzy, October 29, 2006
This review is from: Ozzy Osbourne's Ozzfest 10th Anniversary (DVD)
This is NOT a good retrospective on Ozzfest. It even gives it a bad name! If I were to make this DVD, I would:

1. add footage from the previous Ozzfests, from the first one in 1996 to 2005
2. if not that, give it a more appropriate title without the anniversary part in it
3. add the WHOLE 2005 lineup to it. this includes Iron Maiden and Black Label Society, Ozzy.
4. take out the Bowling For Soup sets. give me a break here! they're a joke and NEVER played Ozzfest

What a joke for a anniversary set. Well, I guess Ozzfest will sink down to its own demise while Sounds of the Underground, Gigantour, and Wacken will make their way up. Shame on you, Ozzy.

1.0 out of 5 stars whats this?, November 3, 2005
This review is from: Ozzy Osbourne's Ozzfest 10th Anniversary (DVD)
im from the uk an when i heard they wud add bands from our download/ozzfest i was excited...after all, seeing unearth, every time i die, lamb of god, chimaira, in flames etc on the smaller stage i saw no harm in mixing them with bands like kse, the hanuted arch enemy etc. But whats this? They take the worst bands on download (HIM, alter bridge, bowling for soup shouldnt even be on an ozzfest in the 1st place) and mix it with very few good bands on the US 1. The exclusion of the great bands from both tours wont go down well with many metal fans im sure. Me being one. Sharon has really lost it this time, we all new maiden wouldn make it but putting on trash so you can sell more instead of putting on the bands that have helped create ozzfest what it is today is unforgivable. Dont buy this

3.0 out of 5 stars Grow Up People, December 2, 2005
This review is from: Ozzy Osbourne's Ozzfest 10th Anniversary (DVD)
This is a corporate industry. You are buying into the marketing, sales and promotion. That is how it works. This is what Sharon does for a living, like it or not. When you go to a concert or buy music, where to you think the money goes? Think about it.

This DVD might not be your favorite but it delivers what it promises. It is what it is and you decided to buy it. Live with it.

Do I like most of this DVD?...no, but that's because I like pure metal and not the mainstream crap...but that's me. I give Ozzy 5 stars and the DVD gets 3.

This review is from: Ozzy Osbourne's Ozzfest 10th Anniversary (DVD)
Hell, I haven't even seen this but by seeing the track listing im pretty sure I can sum it up. Ozzfest has been going for 10 years now. So what do they do as an anniversary dvd? Highlight this years Ozzfest. As an anniversary they should of celebrated and looked back over the last 10 years. The worlds best metal bands EVER have hit the stages of Ozzfests over the last 10 years and these bands would make up for a lot of the highlights of these 10 years. To put it nicely, overall this DVD looks crap. Ok so PERSONALLY (as your average metal fan, and person whom the Osbourne empire would be target to purchase this dvd) id like to name the highlights of the last 10 years of Ozzfest(in my opinion):

- Pantera
- Black Sabbath
- Slayer
- Judas Priest
- Iron Maiden
- Black Label Society
- Down
- Trivium
- Snot
- Killswitch Engage
- Lamb Of God
- Shadows Fall
- Black Label Society

PERSONALLY i see these as some of the highlight bands of the past 10 years. To my knowledge 2 of these bands made it on....utter BS. And someone admit Mr Zakk Wylde to hospital because he just got given the biggest kick to the nuts. Nice way for the Osbournes to pay you back for all your years of loyalty to them and the Ozzfest festival.

Put it this way..........when you celebrate your birthday, you don't celebrate the year that just pasted. You celebrate your life as a whole and look back on life, not just the previous year. I rest my case
