Lydia Cabrera nace en La Habana en 1900 y muere exiliada en Miami en 1991. En 1927 estaba ya instalada en paris, a donde fue a estudiar pintura. Entonces comenzo su larga y fructifera trayectoria en la que recogio el folclore negro cubano en una amplia bibliografia: El Monte, Yemaya y Ochun, Cuentos negros de Cuba, Por Que, Ayapa, Cuetnos para adultos ninos retrasados mentales.
