So this album is not as consistently brilliant es Un Dia Normal or La Vida Es Un Ratico. But it's still Juanes, and an inconsistent Juanes album is still better than anything else out there.
The 1st single should have been "Quimera" which is a great uptempo song where Juanes talks about the problems in the world including earthquakes in chile and the missing women of Juarez. In this current times of issues i think it would have been the perfect time to release this as a single as the song is essentially a song for change.
The best song on the album though goes to "La Razon". Is one of the most beautiful love songs Juanes has ever written. A simple acoustic guitar, acordeon, and base line... I mean if it's not my new favourite Juanes love song then it's in my top 3. That song should have been the 2nd single...
Then there are other great moments like "Amigo", "Esta Noche", 'Y No Regresas" and what i believe should have be the 3rd single "La Soledad" which moves between a slow verse and mid tempo chorus.
The record company is clearly choosing the singles off the album because "Yerbatero" is a terrible song... and then 3rd single "Regalito is not much better". 2nd single "Y No Regresas" should not have been a single either but is a good song. In fact, it's the more uptempo songs where Juanes has terribly failed. Normally you'd get a few great uptempo songs in a Juanes album, but this time around they are terrible with the exception of "Quimera".
The album is still brilliant because of its slower tempo songs. 6 out of twelve songs are still among the best i've heard since the last Juanes album.
Like I said, even inconsistent Juanes is better than just about anything else out there.
The best song by far on this album is Yerbatero. It's one of those songs that you will find yourself singing all day, and you just have to listen to it. In a more musical sense, his complicated rhythms and clever modulation make the song interesting and unique.
In the end, its a great album, and it doesn't have 5 stars simply because Juanes has other albums that are even more amazing.
