Book Description

For every parent who's ever received a letter from a homesick child or anybody who's ever written their parents with crazy requests from their bunk, P.S. I Hate It Here: Kids' Letters From Camp will delight with hilarious and heartwarming real-life letters. In the bestselling tradition of nostalgic looks at classic rites of passage, such as Camp Camp and Bar Mitzvah Disco, P.S. I Hate It Here: Kids' Letters from Camp captures a childhood experience shared by millions. This collection of real letters written by children ages eight to sixteen to their parents about their adventures at summer camp are laugh-out-loud funny and will have readers reminiscing about their own camp days. More than 150 letters cover all the imaginable scenarios of sleep away camp, from acing the cabin lice inspection, to rowing in the "ricotta" race, to breaking the bad news about a retainer lost in the wilderness. These letters reveal that kids are wittier and more sophisticated than we might assume, and that the experience of being away from home for the first time creates hilarious and lasting memories.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it! April 28, 2010
This book is hilarious...having sent my own daughter to camp for several years, I can relate to it. Its funny, pithy and rings true to what a mother can get in those letters. As I rarely do, I laughed out loud when I ready this one. Its a quick fun read, and its a great book to read WITH your kids BEFORE they go to camp to get everyone ready for the journey. Thanks to the author for pulling together such a clever grouping of letters for all of us to enjoy! LB

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute, Not Great June 28, 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Honestly, I'm a HUGE fan of 'Found' items and compilations like this but this is the least funny of the ones I have read. I prefer Mortified or the above mentioned Found for LOL value. However, this would be an amusing part of a care package to camp or in the bathroom for a read.

5.0 out of 5 stars You will LOVE this book September 3, 2010
By Carolyn
Don't expect P.S. I Hate it Here to ever find a permanent spot on your bookshelf. After reading it yourself (this will most likely involve stopping frequently to read your favorite passages to anyone who happens to be nearby), you will end up passing it on to friends and family members, then buying another copy to keep on your coffee table. You will want everyone you know to experience the matter-of-fact hilarity of this book. While I would certainly recommend this to anyone who plans on sending their child to camp next summer, a connection to summer camp isn't at all necessary to enjoy this book immensely. If you have a sense of humor, you will love it. I hope there is a P.S. I (Still) Hate it Here in the works!

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Family Book May 19, 2010
By J. Katz
This book is AMAZING and FUNNY and perfect for the whole family. We read the letters out loud during dinner and sometimes cant get through a page because we are laughing so hard. We are also loving the book because our son has a letter featured and each time we re-read it, it reminds us how happy he is at camp. We hope there are many future editions of this book in years to come.

We have been giving it as gifts to many of our friends with children going to camp for the first time as it takes some of the nerves out of the whole process.

A must read!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious...and touching! September 14, 2010
By Lim
My wife gave me this fast-read little book for my 62nd birthday. It's both hilarious and touching. I can remember writing a letter home to my mom from camp with a drawing of a little kid crying on the back of the envelope. So this really hit home. Great for reading aloud to your baby boomer friends. Check it out. I guarantee you'll get lots of good laughs!

Having just sent my daughter to camp for the first time, her letters home would have fit in perfectly with this book! Kids are funny and frank and that's why this book is so appealing! Great for any aged "camper"!!

1.0 out of 5 stars I gave up and deleted this stupid book.
Too hard to try to decipher the children's handwritten letters. Would it have been so hard to transcribe them? I gave up and deleted this stupid book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny book
This is a funny book. The stories of the kids while at camp are funny. The only thing I didn't like was that it was in the kids handwriting so it was hard to read at times.
