My hearing is exceptionally good. Everytime I blew this whistle I wanted to go somewhere. Seriously, since my dog has unimpaired hearing I simply set the tone to its highest pitch. 2.0 out of 5 stars Deceiving
I feel this whistle is advertised poorly. From the deceiving review it appears that the whistle will only produce very high frequencies that the dog can hear but the neighbors will not. Part of this is true, however I believe that this statement misleads the customer into thinking the whistle operates only in this high frequency register such that humans can not hear it...

I feel this whistle is advertised poorly. From the deceiving review it appears that the whistle will only produce very high frequencies that the dog can hear but the neighbors will not. Part of this is true, however I believe that this statement misleads the customer into thinking the whistle operates only in this high frequency register such that humans can not hear it at all. This is not the case. The whistle produces a very breathy awful sounding tone when blown that makes it annoying to use. The product itself is pretty cheap quality as well.

My hearing is exceptionally good. Everytime I blew this whistle I wanted to go somewhere. Seriously, since my dog has unimpaired hearing I simply set the tone to its highest pitch. Then I started by blowing it in the house and rewarding my dog when she realized where the sound was coming from. Gradually working distance into the training we ended up outdoors, still increasing the distance while decreasing the food reward. Now she comes anytime I use the whistle with no trouble. Yes, some people (me) can hear the highest tone. So what? It just means you have good hearing! Congratulations! But be careful how forcefully you blow it. You may not hear the increase in volume but your dog (and the dogs in the neighborhood) will. And it can be painful, so use it judiciously.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love, January 10, 2009
This review is from: Silent Dog Training Whistle (Misc.)
This is a great whistle. It is easy to change the pitch. You can hear the whistle it is not 100% silent, but to your dog it sounds really, really LOUD. I just got mine and am teaching my dog to come from long distances without me having to yell. This is not a magic whistle you must train you dog to listen...NO MAGIC...

4.0 out of 5 stars It worked for me, January 2, 2010
This review is from: Silent Dog Training Whistle (Misc.)
Right out of the packaging, my small dog became hyper-attentive when I blew the whistle. I gave her the verbal "come" command and then blew the whistle. When she came to me, I rewarded her. It took about 10 - 15 minutes to have her "come" with the whistle only.

My dog's recall is difficult when she sees a biker. However, today, when she saw a biker and ran after the bike, I blew the whistle and she returned. She doesn't even do that for the verbal "come" command. There's something about this whistle that is commanding. It works at a much greater distance than I can yell.

As for the noise it makes, I hear a little air being blown through the whistle, but no high pitched sound. It seems decently built, but I probably would not put it on a key chain or carry it in a pocket with a lot of keys.

What a wonderful tool.

4.0 out of 5 stars decent whistle, not exactly silent, May 20, 2009
This review is from: Silent Dog Training Whistle (Misc.)
this is a fairly good whistle. i say fairly because it isn't silent, but it is pretty quiet. after you've trained your dog to respond to it you shouldn't have a problem getting your dog to come to you after it dissappears somewhere.

Some people think you won't hear the whistle, not true. You can hear it but not loud. I mainly use this when I take my dog at my fenced backyard to go do her business but there sometimes she takes her sweet little time to go back inside and tends to explore. I had to bribe her a handful of doggy treats combined with my arms spread wide open, squatting down and screaming "Come here, Charlie!" to get her to go into the house. Sometimes that doesn't work and I had to chase her in my yard. It's ridiculous. It happens usually late at night and I'm scared the raccoons will get her!

Eversince I've trained her with this whistle she comes running into the house every time she hears it. I watch her sometimes from our kitchen window to do her thing and as soon as I blow that whistle, she'll come into the house in a flash! I even tried blowing the whistle in the farthest part of my house the bedroom and she can hear it! It took me about 10-15 minutes and a lot of treats to train my dog to respond to the whistle. She has associated the sound to getting treats - I limit the treats now that she's really used to it or she will be overweight :) It works for us hence the 5 stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE BEST, June 28, 2005

I HAVE SPENT NEARLY 5 HRS INVESTIGATING, AND RESEARCHING FOR THE BEST SILENT DOG WHISTLE. AND THIS ITEM CAME ACROSS. PRO'S CHOICE AS I TRAIN POLICE K9, AND SECURITY K9. THIS DEVICE WILL DO MORE THAN ENOUGH TO COVER UP TO 2 MILES IN QUESTION WITH SUPER HIGH PITCH FREQUENCY SOUND THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO HEAR BY OUR HUMAN EARS, BUT THE DOGS CAN HEAR IT~! YOU GOT TO KNOW HOW TO TRAIN DOGS FIRST INORDER TO MAKE THIS WHISTLE AFFECTIVE OF COURSE. JUST LIKE CLICKER TRAINING, YOU HAVE TO ASSOCIATE THE SOUND TO REWARD, AND RESPONSE. GRADUALLY, YOUR DOG WILL LEARN WHAT EACH SOUND REPRESENT, AND RESPOND ACCORDINGLY. I WOULD ALSO RECOMMEND ACME, AND REMINGTON DOG WHISTLE. THESE THREE ARE MY TOP CHOICE~! PROBABLY ACME STAINLESS STEEL ONE FROM UK~!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed on my review...but it works, February 3, 2012

By going 3 stars I am trying to be kind and perhaps a bit too gentle.
However in fairness, the dogs hear the whistle.
But going with full disclosure, it is not silent.

It is like a hollow pipe that makes wind noises. The dogs hear it as will humans if they are standing close.

When I bought it I read a lot of reviews and agree with what one person (who gave it 5 stars) in that he can call his dogs with out bothering his neighbors. That would be true. It is much quieter then a regular whistle.

In my lifetime, I have still never seen a "Silent" whistle.

2.0 out of 5 stars Dogs didn't react but the cats did!!, November 9, 2010
By

Neither of my two dogs made any sort of visible response when I blew this whistle (which does make an annoying sound that humans can hear). Their ears did not prick, they didn't turn to look; I could have whistled until the cows came home and they would not have reacted.

However, one of my cats came running. She actually climbed up on my lap and purred, which is unusual behavior for her. This has happened almost every time I blow the whistle. If I can't find this cat I blow the whistle and she comes runniing. Go figure.

So although it did nothing to attract my dogs' attention it is worth something in that it did attract my cat's attention. Maybe the company producing this item should change it to a "cat" whistle.

And I am being completely serious here.

2.0 out of 5 stars Silent? PFFFT!, September 9, 2011

There is nothing silent about this thing. Even when you have it adjusted so you don't hear the actual whistle when your blowing through it you hear the same noise you would from driving your car w/ the windows down & the wind beating at your ears. & you have to blow it so hard your cheeks hurt to get any response from the dog. I have a 3mos old german shepherd with impeccable hearing & she still shrugs it off.

When it's set at it's highest pitch it is PIERCING! In no way silent in any capacity. It's shrill & gives one hell of a headache. It doesn't really make my dog quiet. It makes mine bark like she's trying to top the noise. This is a LOUD whistle. Never use it when you have a headache.
