5.0 out of 5 stars Just lovely music to listen to
This music is just lovely to listen to. I have bought an extra one of each music arrangement for my sisters.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
I expected to get a CD with the songs from the movie, as there was people singing this Irish folk in the movie, which was central to the movie in fact. Unfortunately what I got was an Orchestra playing myself and no vocals at all.

I do have to admit I really am soooo sad that Gerard Butler's singing and Hilary Swanks singing and Jeffrey Dean Morgan's singing were not included in this music from the Motion Picture. What were they thinking? That is one of the main reason most of us bothered to even see the movie, because we knew Gerard (Gerry) Butler would be in the movie and be singing. We think the producers really made a hugh mistake in not putting in all of their music in its completion...My gosh do they realize how many fans Gerry Butler has alone???...obviously they don't...Oh yes, and the first song that they play at the wake was so comical...why wasn't that included?? Dahh?
Well just a few comments and hopefully they will make up a new CD with all those above songs included...It would sell very nicely just from the people who admire Gerry Butler and Hillary Swank and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
Have these producers every checked out the thousands of people who are on GerardButler.net and GerardButlergals.com???? I guess NOT!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A "Sweet" Score From Powell, April 25, 2008

This review is from: P.S. I Love You (Audio CD)
I've been a fan of John Powell since his Media Ventures days and he continues to me amaze me with his versatility. This is not the big bombastic score like "X-Men 3" but this is the John Powell of "I Am Sam" and "Gigli." I would venture to say this score is better than Sam or Gigli as there is more melody, instrumentation and a stronger string presence. From start to finish it is just simply a pleasant listening experience. I haven't seen the movie (which I heard was fantastic) but after hearing the score, I actually really want to see the film. Powell has rapidly become one of my favorite composers and this score justifies that. Favorite tracks on this album include, "Jacket", "To Eire", "William On The Lake", "Gerry's Fort", "The Kiss" and more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Score I Own, February 19, 2009
This review is from: P.S. I Love You (Audio CD)
John Powell seriously outdid himself this time. The music of this score fits the movie perfectly, but it's not a tune that you stereotype to the story. (Like when you hear Captain Jack's tune, you automatically think Pirates of the Caribbean.) It's not just a score, it's MUSIC.

This score is honestly the best I own. It's music fits my mood anytime. If I'm doing homework, it helps me think. If I'm rather depressed, it helps lift my mood. If I'm happy, then it keeps me that way!

I listen to this at least two times a week, and have yet to grow tired of it. 5 stars to Powell!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Excellent Score by John Powell, August 10, 2010

John Powell creates and composes a terrific score. It is encouraging, uplifting, calming, and fresh. I particularly enjoy the acoustic guitar in many of the tracks. Combine this with the beautiful instrumental pieces and it makes for great listening.

Any time John Powell is involved with a movie's score, I pay attention, regardless of what type of film it is. I purchased this movie for my wife (earned a few "Get Out of Jail" cards, too) and watched it with her. The story was good, but the music was incredible. Pop this score in your car and it helps pass the time and keeps things relaxed and at ease. No disapointments to found anywhere in the score.

P.S. Buy it - You'll thoroughly enjoy it!

A very light and soothing soundtrack (flavored with a generous touch of Irish-inspired themes). It really captured the tone and the spirit of the film.

5.0 out of 5 stars PS I Love You Motion Picture Score, September 19, 2008
This review is from: P.S. I Love You (Audio CD)
This is a wonderful CD to be enjoyed by lovers of the movie especially. It has multiple variations on the love theme as it relates to the various scenes of the movie. Listening to it conjures up the feelings one has when watching the film itself. Gerry's theme is the predominant one, of course, but William also has a distinct theme that is beautiful. Everyone who loved the film will want to own this CD!

John Powell is no stranger to the romance genre. Having composed scores for films like Two Weeks Notice, Forces Of Nature, Gigli and Just Visiting he has definitely familiarized himself with the genre. The thing to note though is that for some reason when most people think of romance films they automatically think comedy as well, which is mostly true. The "romcom" is definitely a popular film, but what makes P.S. I Love You different is that it's more of a romantic drama.

I would probably compare this score most closely with his score to I Am Sam. It's a very light score with heavy focus on strings and some focus on a solo guitar for the more delicate cues. The subject matter is dealing with a woman who is dealing with the death of her one true love and starting a new life, and the mood is definitely that in the score. There is a hint of sorrow and almost a "renewing" quality to the score that I felt when listening to it. Images of springtime definitely flooded into my head during my first listen. The simplicity and delicate nature of the music makes it feel like it's growing into something more.

It definitely holds that John Powell style. "To Eire" is a great track that will make Powell fans smile because it has those swelling strings we've come to recognize in a lot of Powell scores. The most impressive part to me is that he is able to create a light and delicate atmosphere without falling into that sappy and schmaltzy sound that we hear a lot nowadays in films like this. I really think it takes a talented composer to be able to stay way from that overly sweet and saccharine sound because it's really easy to fall into that trap.

Powell is a master at crafting sounds for different genres. Take his two previous score releases before this (Horton Hears A Who! & Stop-Loss) and then compare it to this. The range he has is amazing. I've been a Powell fan since his Zimmer days and his score to Face/Off and will be looking forward to more great listening experiences from one of the most talented composers working today.

5.0 out of 5 stars John Powell nailed it again!, December 28, 2011

John Powell has been my favorite composer for a while now - and I believe that opinion is very much justified. He does amazing work and each score he creates is rather unique. This one though is especially unique. Throughout the whole work, it's textures and melodies are sweet and soothing. I would definitely recommend this to anyone...but if you're unsure, go ahead and listen to all of the tracks on youtube. I gave this to my girlfriend for her birthday and she absolutely loved it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Soundtrack from P.S. I Love You - movie, November 4, 2009
This review is from: P.S. I Love You (Audio CD)
All my favorite songs from the movie are on this cd. I read several reviews before I purchased and they sounded like this cd wasn't very good. I dissagree. I love the music and I found nothing wrong with the cd. Makes me want to watch the movie for the 9th time.
