5.0 out of 5 stars Great way to impress a chick
So i'm a dude...but I saw this book the other day and it kind of blew my mind. I flipped through and saw the ring necklace chapter, and it inspired me to make one for this girl that i'm dating. Needless to say, when I gave it to her and told her I made it, she was blown away.

2.0 out of 5 stars tacky and impractical
I love creating things, and I so saw this book and thought it would be perfect!! However, when I started looking at the creations in the book, I knew I should have done more research before hand. Who wants a neclkace made from bouncy balls?? It's huge, tacky and very impractical. There's another project for earrings made from striped drinking straws. Not cute at al1...

The directions are very easy to understand and clear, but i'm not sure why anyone would want to make half of whats in here. Don't get me wrong, there are a few good ideas, but most of them are horrible.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dissappointed reader, November 5, 2010

This review is from: P.S.-- I Made This . . .(PS I Made This): I See It. I Like It. I Make It. (Paperback)
Dear Erika,

I was so excited, when I read, that you published a book. I am your enthusiastic fan such a long time. I said: Does not matter the postal fee, the high exchange rate of the USD I will order your book from Budapest, Hungary.

I was so excited, when my father told me, I got a package.

I was so excited, I did not even open the book immediately, I waited until got my workplace.

I was so excited...I checked your book from page to page.

And then I was so disappointed. Really. I hardly find anything, what I would like to create from your book. I am so sorry. I can't understand. You are posting so creative things on your websites. How come this book?

I am still one of your big fan, I check your post whenever you publish it. I create your stuff. But I am pretty sure, I never ever buy a book published by you. Sorry!

All the best,
Lema

5.0 out of 5 stars My best gift to others, September 6, 2010

This review is from: P.S.-- I Made This . . .(PS I Made This): I See It. I Like It. I Make It. (Paperback)
WOW!! This book is the most fun. My sister and I read it cover to cover together and thought of all the fun things we would make for ourselves but also pictured which items were perfect for other family members and friends. This book is now going to be my best gift ever to others. I am going to pick a project appropriate for the recipient and wrap the book with all of the ingredients to make that project so they can get started right away. This is the best party favor, party theme, book club topic, or gift for girls of any age (even 57 and 45).
Thank you Erica Domesek!

2.0 out of 5 stars VERY Disappointed, August 18, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: P.S.-- I Made This . . .(PS I Made This): I See It. I Like It. I Make It. (Paperback)
First off, let me say that I love Erica Domesek's blog. I have found a couple things that I like and have made.

That being said, this book is now in my "Yard Sale" box. I should have previewed it in-store before buying it.

Let me explain: I found nothing- NO THING- in this book that I will make for myself.

Let me qualify that very harsh statement. I am a 38 year old woman, living in a small, liberal arts college town. I am not "edgy." Or "quirky." I neither have nor want the kind of personality that could pull off some of these looks. A shirt made accented with folded up coffee filters. Paper coffee filters. (I'll give you a minute to digest that.)Moving on..."Tuxedo pants" made with decorative ribbon glued on. Metallic spray painted canvas sneakers. A necklace made with plastic triangle rulers. (I hate to sound like a mother, but "Absolutely not. You'll poke your eye out.") A hairband accented with cocktail umbrellas? Only if I had the cocktails first-and I am not sure even that would do the trick. The "high bounce" balls necklace has been mentioned in other posts.

The designs in the book seem inspired by fashions modeled on the runway or print ads. Fashions I have always looked at as a "hook" to get the designer and designs noticed, but that no one in "real life" would actually wear.

I guess I was looking to be like Molly Ringwold's character in "Pretty in Pink." Make something incredible out of some bits and pieces that are mundane or horrible in their original state. No. With the exception of a t-shirt fringed cowl and a jeans purse (neither of which I would wear, but I know a college freshman that would), I think everything looks cheap. Like something a bored 6th grader would make on a rainy weekend.

I know this review is very harsh. But, I like Erica and I think she can do better.

Ending on a positive note, I gave this two stars because I like the idea in theory (if not execution), the book is well laid out and the photos are gorgeous. Most importantly, the instructions are EXCELLENT. Very easy to follow. Erica is a very good guide.

I bought two copies of this book at the same time, one for my 29 year old daughter and one for my 27 year old niece. I returned them by mail the same day they arrived. The items are tacky- the type of thing where if you told someone you made it yourself, their initial thought would be "No kiddin'." I could not imagine either my daughter or niece making anything from this book let alone wearing it. And they are very fashion forward, savvy shoppers. A good reason to check out a book at your public library and then buy local. Very disappointed.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not What Martha Made it Out to Be, October 19, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: P.S.-- I Made This . . .(PS I Made This): I See It. I Like It. I Make It. (Paperback)
The author was on Martha Stewart earlier this month, I think, to demonstrate making the necklace with the bouncy balls and although I could see that turning out really cute, everything in the book really looks "homeade" and kind of cheap.

3.0 out of 5 stars I wanted more, November 24, 2010

If you already know what she does, read her blog, look at her videos on the web or on tv... that's nothing new.
I wanted more and all I got a few unknown but simple DIY projects and the rest I already saw her doing somewhere else.
If PS I Made this is new to you, than I highly recommend. if not, I think you should stick to her site or search for her videos.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great For Beginners On Up, October 21, 2010
This review is from: P.S.-- I Made This . . .(PS I Made This): I See It. I Like It. I Make It. (Paperback)
I am not a crafty person, but I want to be. After reading the other reviews on here, I decided to buy this book because it seemed like it could help me with my problem.

This book has exceptionally clear directions, which make it great for beginners. Every project is laid out with step-by-step instructions, and the steps are also pictured. Another big plus of this book is that you could take the things you learn in each project and easily use those skills to make your own creations or customize the projects in the book.

The only thing minor downside is that a couple of the projects wouldn't last. For example, I was drawn to the ruffle tee; it looks so pretty in the picture. Then, I saw that the ruffles are made of coffee filters, which would never hold up through the wash. I realize that the project is meant to be temporary, but it is still a little disappointing.

1.0 out of 5 stars This book is lame., December 30, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: P.S.-- I Made This . . .(PS I Made This): I See It. I Like It. I Make It. (Paperback)
I bought this book because I am an etsy addict and love to make my own fashions, so I was looking for new ideas and techniques. I would not wear any of the things in this book. They look dumb and homemade - like a child made them in summer camp. No one would seriously think these "fashion" items were anything but childish craft projects. Most of them are ugly. They are easy to make and the author writes well and explains things clearly, but the end products are just lame. I really regret spending money on this book. Don't waste yours!
